Edwin Hust, 87, Jamestown, North Dakota died Sunday, March 16, 2008 at the St. Rose Care Center in LaMoure, North Dakota.
Edwin was born December 17, 1920 to George and Rose (Moser Hust) Krenz on a farm south of Woodworth. His father, George, died of double pneumonia in 1927 and his mother later remarried his stepfather, August Krenz. He was the eighth of 10 children. His education was obtained at the Woodworth Public School where he graduated from eighth grade in 1938. He helped his parents on the family farm until he enlisted in the United States Army in 1942.
In World War II, he served in the medical corp carrying litters of wounded from the front lines to the hospital. He was first stationed in North Africa and later in Sicily, Italy, southern France and Germany. Upon the war's conclusion he stood guard at Dachau and Marseilles. In December of 1945, he returned home with the ranking of Corporal with 2 stripes.
Edwin obtained employment with the Northern Pacific Railroad (later to become the Burlington Northern RR) in January 1949, as a part of the Bridge and Building crew.
He married Emma Reiser on February 18, 1956 in Woodworth, ND. They later moved to Jamestown and raised three children, Debra, Larry and Allan. They becames members of the of the Concordia Lutheran Church in 1956 and Edwin served as trustee, usher and outside janitor through the years. He retired from the Burlington Northern RR in 1980 after 30 years of employment.
He loved hunting, fishing and watching his favorite team, the Minnesota Twins.
Edwin is survived by his wife, Emma, Jamestown; a daughter, Debra (Randall) Hanson, Littleton, CO; two sons, Larry (Kay) Hust and Allan (Marsha) Hust, both of Jamestown; and three grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; five brothers, Ted, August, Adam and Rueben Hust and Harry Krenz; and four sisters, Edna Struxness, Lydia Lange, Elsie Koenig and Eileen Koenig .
Funeral Service: 10:00 AM, Friday, March 21, 2008 at Concordia Lutheran Church, Jamestown, with Pastor Thomas Eckstein officiating.
Visitation: 1:00 to 8:00 PM, Thursday, March 20, 2008 at the Eddy Funeral Home in Jamestown, ND.
Burial at a later date: Sunset Memorial Gardens, Jamestown, North Dakota.
