Elaine Gusaas, 86, of Jamestown, passed away peacefully on Thursday, May 4, 2017 at the Sheyenne Care Center, Valley City, ND.
Elaine Elizabeth Gusaas was born on March 11, 1931 in Towner County, near Rolla, ND, the daughter of Allen and Margaret (Mehr) Randa. She attended school in Rolla, ND and later moved to Valley City and lived with and worked for Dr. Meritt and his family. She graduated from St. Catherine's High School in Valley City. On November 1, 1952, Elaine married Donald Gusaas in Seattle WA. They moved to Jamestown, ND in 1953. Donald passed away on April 1, 2010.
She was a housewife of four children, and very active in her church and community. She belonged to a homemakers club, was a member of the Tabernacle Society and served as a Elementary CCD Principal at St. John's Academy. She served on the board of directors for the Senior Citizen Center.
Elaine enjoyed being around family, playing cards, dancing, fishing at the lake and making lefsa. After retirement her and Don spent their winters in Texas and summers at the cabin on the reservoir.
Elaine is survived by three sons, Ronn (Rachel) Gusaas, White Bear Lake, MN, Dan (Mary Jo) Gusaas, Jamestown, ND, Mike Gusaas, West Fargo, ND; one daughter Mary (Steve) Kreis, Montrose, CO; nine grandchildren and thirteen great grandchildren. She is also survived by four brothers, Ernest (Marilyn) Randa, Rolla, ND, Ron Randa, Minot, ND, Ken Randa, Minot, ND, Dwayne (Martha) Randa, Kansas City, MO; five sisters, Ellie Gordon, Seattle, WA, Euna Straub, Issaquah, WA, Delores West, Marble Falls, AR, Beverly Boucher, Dunseith, ND, Karen (Roland) Desjarlais, Belcourt, ND. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, two brothers and one sister.
In lieu of flowers, the family prefers masses or a memorial to Hospice of Red River Valley.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:00 AM, Monday, May 8 at St. James Basilica. Visitation will be 4:00 PM to 7:30 PM, Sunday at Eddy Funeral Chapel, Jamestown, ND with a Vigil service and Rosary at 7:30 PM at the funeral home. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery.
