Eleanor Gahner, 80, Jamestown, ND, died Friday, September 2, 2011, at Eventide at Hi-Acres, Jamestown.

Eleanor Vivian Schrenk was born December 10, 1930, in Logan County, ND, the daughter of Julius and Christina (Schwartz) Schrenk. She was raised on the family farm and went to country school in Moon Lake Township. She married Melvin Gahner on February 13, 1949, at the family farm. They lived on a farm west of Sidney, ND until 1953. They moved to Jamestown for a short time, and then moved back to the farm. They moved to Eldridge, ND in 1964. In 2004, they moved to Jamestown. She moved to Eventide at Hi-Acres in 2005. Over the years, she cooked at various restaurants in Jamestown. She was the last cook and custodian at Eldridge School.

Eleanor was a member of Temple Baptist Church, Jamestown. She enjoyed gardening, planting trees, cooking and baking, listening to music, and creating her famous lawn ornaments. She loved chickens! She was affectionately known to her family and friends as Auntie Toots.

Eleanor is survived by her husband, Melvin, Jamestown; four sons, Greg, Reno, NV, Mark (Cindy), McClusky, ND, Tom and Darrin, both Jamestown; three sisters, Evangeline (Alvin) Luck, Adrian, ND, Ardean (Dale) Harr, Woodworth, ND and Delores Roehr, Vidor, TX; two brothers, Roger (Sandy) Schrenk, St. Paul, MN, and Randy Schrenk, Fargo, ND, five grandchildren, Ian and Rebecca, both Reno, Jay (Darci), McClusky, Kristin (Stuart) Wahl, Bismarck, ND, and Caitlin, Aurora, CO; and five great-grandchildren, Carter and Taylor, both McClusky, and Evan, Parker, and Emily, all of Bismarck.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and three brothers, Raymond, Curtis and Arnold.
