Elizabeth Harty

Elizabeth ""Betty"" A. Harty, 79, Jamestown, North Dakota died Saturday, October 23, 2010 at Jamestown Hospital.

Elizabeth A. Brown was born March 25, 1931 in Jamestown, the daughter of Herbert V. and Marguerite (Berry) Brown. She grew up and attended school in Jamestown, graduating from Jamestown High School in 1949. She attended Jamestown College for one year. Betty worked for Northwestern Bell as a telephone operator in St. Paul, MN and Jamestown, ND. On June 6, 1953, Betty married James K. Harty in Jamestown.

Betty was a member of the Basilica of St. James, Jamestown and was a volunteer at Jamestown Hospital and St. James parish.

Betty is survived by her husband, James, Jamestown; four children, Jennifer (Dennis) Van Berkum, Mankato, MN, Amy (Mark) Haines, Eckelson, ND, James \""Jim\"" (Connie) Harty and Thomas \""Tom\"" (Jeanne) Harty, both of Jamestown; 11 grandchildren, Jessica Van Berkum (Mike Weathers), Emily (David) Holmquist, Andrew (Amy) Van Berkum, David Schiwal, Katie Schiwal, Nicole Harty (Brett Anderson), Alicia (Anthony) Holen, Brittany Harty, Ryan (Brandi) Harty, Kendra (Jed) Steiner and Robert Harty; 5 great-grandchildren, Elizabeth Holmquist, Brooklyn Van Berkum, Brady Harty, Evan Harty and Ella Steiner; one brother-in-law, Robert Andrus, Jamestown; one sister-in-law, Maxine Harty, Nebraska; and five nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; one sister, Beverly Andrus; and one brother-in-law, Jack Harty.
