Elizabeth ""Betty"" Seibel, 99, Jamestown, N.D. died Tuesday, December 17, 2002 at Hi-Acres Manor in Jamestown, N.D.
Betty Haken was born April 20, 1903 in Oakes, N.D., the daughter of Weert and Gesina (Frey) Haken. She grew up and received her education in North Dakota. She helped her father in the coal mines near Wilton, N.D., also helped him with brick laying and well drilling.
She married Jacob Schlaht on October 11, 1922 in Cleveland, N.D. They farmed south of Cleveland, N.D., where she worked with her husband before they moved to a farm south of Jamestown, N.D. in 1941. He died on December 19, 1948.
Betty worked in Jamestown at the North Dakota State Hospital, did sewing for the Straus Company, and various other jobs. She married Jacob Seibel on August 12, 1954 in Jamestown, N.D., where they continued to make their home. He died on June 10, 1983.
Betty was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church and made many quilts for the church. She enjoyed sewing, traveling, and baking.
Betty is survived by a daughter, Lorraine Zuber, of Jamestown, N.D.; one son, Lloyd (Irene) Schlaht, of Hermeston, OR; one daughter-in-law, Barbara Schlacht, of Billings, MT; three step daughters, Virginia (Leonard) Eichele, of Bowdon, N.D.; Vivian (James) Lehr, of Bowdon, N.D.; Linda (Bill) Bloudt, of Denver, CO; 15 grandchildren; 28 great grandchildren; 17 great great grandchildren; numerous step grandchildren and step great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, lst husband (Jacob Schlaht), 2nd husband (Jacob Siebel), one son (Earl Schlaht), one daughter (Shirley Derheim), two sons-in-law (Earl Derheim & Frank Zuber), one granddaughter (Vivian Seifert), four sisters (Gertrude Holznagal, Tillie Kugler, Werdena Danials, and Lena Halvorson), and two brothers (Bennie Haken and Abel Haken).
Funeral Service: 10:30 A.M. - Saturday, December 21, 2002 at St. John's Lutheran Church, Jamestown, N.D., with Rev. Doug Opp officiating.
Visitation: Friday, December 20, 2002 - 9:00 A.M. to 9:00 P.M. Eddy Funeral Home, Jamestown, N.D.
Burial: Highland Home Cemetery, Jamestown, N.D.
