Ellis Engel, 85, of Jamestown, ND, passed away Sunday evening, September 22, 2019 at Sheyenne Care Center, Valley City, ND.
Ellis Clair Engel was born February 11, 1934, in Aberdeen, SD, the son of Clarence and Evelyne (Dot) Engel. He was educated in Aberdeen schools where he was active in high school band, graduating in 1953. At an early age, Ellis learned the auto body trade from his dad and worked with him at various body shops. He lived in the Portland, OR area for several years before entering the US Army on November 9, 1956 and was stationed at Ft. Hood, TX. Ellis served with the 2nd Armed Rifle BH 52nd Infantry as SP4 E-4 and was honorably discharged on November 7, 1958. He moved to Jamestown where he worked for Melland’s, Jamestown Body Shop, Gernhart’s Body Shop, and Don Wilhelm, Inc. Ellis married Doris Eichhorn on September 22, 1973 at Trinity Lutheran Church, Jamestown.
Ellis enjoyed the outdoors, woodworking, making model cars & furniture, and reading.
He is survived by his wife, Doris Engel, Jamestown; two nephews, Wayne Jeffs, Tijeras, NM and Chris Jeffs, Rio Rancho, NM; niece, Laurie, Santa Cruz, CA; and many cousins.
Ellis was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Jean Jeffs.
Memorial Service: 10:30 a.m., Thursday, September 26, 2019 at Trinity Lutheran Church, Jamestown.
Burial: Highland Home Cemetery, Jamestown.
