Elmer Diede, 91, died Thursday, December 30, 2010 at his home in Jamestown, ND.
Elmer Diede was born July 28, 1919 in Streeter, ND, the son of William Sr. and Sarah (Geidt) Diede. He attended Streeter High School and also attended Ellendale Normal at Ellendale, ND. He served in the United States Army in the European Theatre and the Alaskan Theatre in the Intelligence Reconnaissance Service. During World War II, he was awarded the Honor of "Silver Star". He was honorably discharged on October 1945. He married Lavern Jenner at Ashley, ND on November 11, 1945 at the First Baptist Church of Ashley. After their marriage they lived in Jamestown and Elmer started his career with the U.S. Postal Service. He retired after 37 years.
Elmer enjoyed sporting events and golfing. He worked part time at the Hillcrest Golf Course during his retirement. Elmer was a loving and devoted husband, father and grandfather. "Auf wiedersehen"
He is survived by Lavern, his wife of 65 years; 2 daughters: Sara (Dennis) Norton, Plymouth, MN; Paulette (Greg) Olson, White Bear Lake, MN; 2 sons: Mark (Ruth) Diede, Jamestown, ND; Anthony (Kathryn) Deide, Saudi Arabia; 7 grandson: Zachary, Joshua and Noah Norton, Micah and Jonah Olson; Matt (Christina) and Jonathan Diede; 2 granddaughters: Meghan and Gretchen Diede; a great-granddaughter, Emerson Diede; a sister, Adeline Rowe, Santa Barbara, CA; a sister-in-law, Ruth Jenner, Ashley, ND and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; 3 brothers: Walwin, Arnold and William Jr. and a sister, Florence Erberle.
Memorial Service - 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, January 4, 2011 at First Baptist Church, Jamestown, ND.
Visitation - 1 hour prior to services at the church on Tuesday.
Interment - Highland Home Cemetery at a later date.
