Elmer Clifford Haas was born on the family farm north of Cleveland, North Dakota on February 6, 1923 and died October 16, 2018 at 7:15 pm in Ridgway, CO. Elmer was preceded in death by his mom and dad, Lydia and Emmanuel Haas, brothers, Virgil and Lloyd Haas, wife, Mary Evangeline Haas, and grandson, Ryan Duvall. Elmer is survived by two sisters, Evelyn Rosin and Lillian Jonietz, four daughters, Mary Kathryn Duvall, Laura Jean Ryan, Candice Carol Hollingsead, Evangeline Ellen deFluiter, 8 grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren, and 1 step great grandchild.
Elmer’s mother was Lydia Harr, and his father was Emmanuel Haas. Lydia’s parents were Daniel and Katherine Harr. Emanuel’s parents were Barbara and Jacob Haas. Elmer went to elementary school about one mile west of the farm in a one room school house beginning in 1929 and completed his high school education at Sheyenne River Academy, Harvey, North Dakota in 1943. In 1944 Elmer was inducted into the army in Minneapolis, MN at Fort Snelling. During WWII he served in the Pacific Theater on board 2 different hospital ships as a non-combatant army medic.
Following the war Elmer attended Union College where he met his future wife, Mary Evangeline Wold. Elmer and Van were married in Minneapolis, MN, March 28, 1948. They began their married life in Lincoln, NE. Elmer took some classes at the University of Nebraska in Lincoln and graduated from Union College in 1950 with a degree in agriculture and a minor in religion. They spent summers working on the farm in North Dakota.
Following dad’s graduation, they moved to Jamestown were dad worked for the University of North Dakota teaching agriculture to veterans. Their first home was located at 915 5th Avenue SE Jamestown, ND. From there the family, which now included 3 daughters, moved to Streeter, ND. In 1958 Elder Kimber Johnson asked Elmer to be a pastor of the Seventh-day Adventist (SDA) church. Elmer accepted and the family moved to Max, ND.
Elmer worked for the SDA church in North Dakota, Iowa, California, the Dakota Conference, and Oregon until 1988 when he retired. Elmer and Van retired and moved to College Place, WA in 1993. Their final moves included Silver Spring, MD and Ridgway, CO residing with Michael and Laura Jean Ryan.
It is with hope for the second coming of Jesus that Elmer is now laid to rest in North Dakota, his home, at the Medina Country Church cemetery. He sleeps waiting for the voice of Jesus to call.

Memorial Service: 3:00 PM, Saturday, October 27, 2018 at The Seventh-Day Adventist Church in Jamestown with Pastor Michael Ryan officiating.
Burial: Medina Country Cemetery, Medina, North Dakota.
