Elmer Pfaff

Elmer Pfaff, 83 of Tappen, ND died Thursday, February 18, 2016 at Sanford Hospital in Bismarck, ND. Elmer was born on May 7, 1932 at Tappen, ND the son of Simon and Kathrina (Mittleider) Pfaff. He grew up on a farm south of Tappen, attended a country school and Tappen Public School. He married Betty Lou Andres on January 25, 1952 at the Evangelical United Brethren Church Parsonage in Tappen. He was drafted to the Army in October 1952, at Fort Ripley, Kansas, and served in the Korean Conflict. He was honorably discharged in September of 1954 as a Corporal. They moved into their present house in the fall of 1977, milked a few cows and did small grains. They purchased the station from Al Schatz and operated Pfaff's Standard in Tappen in 1973 for two years.
He also worked for Haybusters, Northern Improvement, Tuff and Doris DeWitz, and Thornton's trucking. He later worked for Alton, Gloria, and Craig Kemmet for 30 plus years.
Elmer enjoyed fishing, loved to travel, have coffee with friends. He was a member of Zion United Methodist Church where he received a head usher award from 1977 to 2008.
Also a member of Woodwick McDonough Post 212, in Tappen where he received a 50 year award for membership on March 15, 2009.
Elmer is survived by his wife Betty, of 64 years, sons, Mark Pfaff, Tappen, Michael (Darla) Pfaff, Tappen, Jeffrey (Corrina) Pfaff, Bismarck, Randall (Laurie) Pfaff, Rocklin, CA. Grandchildren, Scott (Candice) Pfaff, Staci Pfaff, Alyssa (Mark) McLaughlin, Matthew and MiKayla Pfaff, Arielle (Jeff) Cromer, Adrianna and Ashley Pfaff.
8 Great grandchildren. Sister, Bertha Roemmich, Jamestown.
He was preceded in death by his parents, six brothers, four sisters.
Funeral Service; 11:00 AM, Wednesday, February 24, 2016 at Zion United Methodist Church, Tappen, ND with Pastor Hazel Behrens officiating.
Visitation; 4:00 to 6:30 PM, Tuesday, February 23, 2016 at Eddy Funeral Home.
Prayer Service; 6:30 PM, Tuesday, at Eddy Funeral Home.
Burial; Fisher Cemetery, Tappen, ND
