Elwanda Lueck

May 7, 1922 — March 24, 2012

Elwanda "Polly" Mathias Lueck, 89, (just shy of 90) Jamestown, ND, formerly of Spiritwood, ND, passed away on Saturday, March 24, 2012 at Jamestown Regional Medical Center after a brief illness with heart failure.

Polly was born on May 7, 1922 in Homer Township, south of Jamestown, to Elmer V. & Myrtle (Berg) Mathias. She attended Homer School No. 2, and graduated from Jamestown High School in 1940. She worked as a clerk in the Equity Creamery Store and later in the office.

Polly married John M. Lueck on January 17, 1945 at the home of her parents in Home Township, moving to Rose Township, north of Spiritwood, ND. She and her husband farmed together for 56 years. John died May 26, 2001. She enjoyed life in the country.

She was baptized and confirmed from St. John's Lutheran Church, Jamestown, in 1939. She was presently a member of Atonement Lutheran Church, Jamestown.

After 66 years on the family farm, Polly moved to Prairie Hills Complex where she enjoyed visiting with many long time friends as well as meeting new friends.

Polly enjoyed crossword and jigsaw puzzles, reading, and making fleece blankets. She especially enjoyed cooking, baking (caramel rolls and cream puffs), and entertaining her family and friends. Polly was a regular listener of McCoy Ministries throughout her life.

Polly is survived by a daughter, Wanda Jean Walker, Jamestown; son and daughter-in-law, John E. "Jack" & Karen Lueck, Spiritwood; four grandchildren, Lori Walker, Plymouth, MN, John Paul "JP" (Lexie) Lueck, Spiritwood, Lenae (Joe) Bear, Buchanan, ND, Nathan (Amber) Lueck, Jamestown; three great-grandchildren, Markell Lueck, Jacie Bear and Emry Lueck; one sister, Mary (Harold) Trautman, Jamestown; sisters-in-law, Arline Lueck and Odella Mathias, both of Jamestown, step-sisters, Marlyn (Ken) Wegenke, Jamestown and Ruth Johnson, Grand Forks, ND; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, John; infant twin daughters, Marlene and Darlene; parents; one brother, Eston; one sister, Virginia Guthmiller; granddaughter, Kami Jo Walker; step-brother, Rev. Norman V. Johnson; and step-sister, Lillian Valenta.
