Emma Hofer, 94, Tacoma, Washington, formerly of Jamestown, ND, died Saturday, January 15, 2005 in Tacoma.
Emma Wiederrich was born March 21, 1910 in Hoffnungstal, Besserabien, South Russia the daughter of John and Pauline (Hofer) Wiederrich. She grew up and attended school there. Emma married Edward Hofer on December 19, 1927 in Hoffnungstal. They lived and farmed in South Russia until 1940. They were displaced to Germany where they made their home until 1951. They came to America in 1951 and settled in Gackle, ND for two years and in 1953 they moved to Jamestown where their home has been since. Edward died December 22, 1982. Emma worked at the North Dakota State Hospital as an aide for 19 years.
Emma was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church and the St. John's Ladies Aid and Sewing Circle. She enjoyed fishing, knitting, crocheting and quilting and she loved to entertain her friends. Emma traveled to Germany seven times to visit her family.
In 2004 Emma moved to Tacoma, WA to live with her daughter and son-in-law who cared for her since March of 2003.
Emma is survived by three daughters; Frieda Brehm, Jamestown, Helma (Gary) Pleinis, Tacoma, WA and Inge Fryman, Uppland, CA; nine grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; one sister, Louisa Otterstadter and one brother, Robert (Erna) Wiederrich both of Germany.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, a son, Edward, a daughter, Louise, in infancy, grandson, Mike Brehm and granddaughter, Tami Hofer.

Funeral Service: 1:00 PM, Saturday, January 22, 2005 at the Eddy Funeral Chapel with Rev. Doug Opp officiating.
Visitation: 1:00 to 5:00 PM, Friday, January 21, 2005 at the Eddy Funeral Home.
