Emma L. Norden, 96, Jamestown, North Dakota, formerly of Kensal, ND, died Tuesday, January 27, 2009 at Ave Maria Village in Jamestown.
Emma L. Ronholm was born October 21, 1912 at Kensal, the daughter of Olia Knute and Tilda (Arneson) Ronholm. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith. She attended schools in the area, graduating from Kensal High School in 1931. Emma attended Valley City State Teachers College and taught in rural schools. She was employed by the Farmers Union Education Service in Jamestown until her marriage.
On June 12, 1941, Emma and Ralph Norden of Woodworth, ND were united in marriage at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Kensal. They left for Los Angeles, CA where Ralph was employed by the shipyards. In 1943 they returned to Woodworth, where they farmed until 1948. They then moved to their farm east of Kensal where they farmed until their retirement. They moved to Jamestown in 1995.
Emma was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Kensal, and a charter member of the Lutheran Women's Missionary League. Emma enjoyed oil painting, traveling, music, and baking.
Emma is survived by two daughters, Dorene (Tim) Van Devender, Winter Haven, FL and Judith (Martin) Pfotenhauer, Aberdeen, SD; four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews, with a special niece, Clarice Spitzer of Jamestown.
She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; and three sisters, Alma Spitzer, Gladys Blahna, and Clara Martineau.
Funeral Service: 11:00 AM, Monday, February 2, 2009 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Kensal, ND, with the Rev. Robert Hill officiating.
Visitation: 1:00 to 5:00 PM, Sunday, February 1, 2009 at the Eddy Funeral Home, Jamestown, ND.
Prayer Service: 2:00 PM, Sunday, February 1, 2009 at the Eddy Funeral Chapel.
Burial in the spring: Kensal Cemetery, Kensal, North Dakota
