Erma Gienger, 80, Jamestown, North Dakota, died Thursday, November 11, 2010 at Jamestown Hospital.
Erma Spitzer was born January 28, 1930 on the family farm NW of Streeter, ND, the daughter of Philip and Lydia (Graf) Spitzer. Erma attended a one room country school and graduated from Streeter High School. Erma attended the Hope United Church of Christ and was confirmed there. On June 6, 1948 she married Wilmer Gienger and farmed in the Streeter area until 1953 when relocating to a farm south of Cleveland, ND until 1957 when they purchased the farm west of Cleveland, where they resided until retiring to Jamestown in 1976. Erma resided in West Fargo, ND for a period of time with her daughter, Valeria, until she moved to Roseadele. Erma worked as a ward clerk for the North Dakota State Hospital.
Erma's favorite pastimes were crocheting with beads, tailoring suits and dresses. Siblings and grandchildren each received a handcrafted quilt from Erma.
Erma was a member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church, Jamestown, and enjoyed participating in the Ladies Circle. She was a lifetime member of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary.
Erma is survived by her husband, Wilmer, West Fargo, ND; three daughters, Valeria Youle, West Fargo, ND, Rosalie (Terry) Wibstad, Jamestown and Cindy (Dean) Schlaht, Cleveland, ND; three sons, Delbert (Judy) Gienger, Glasgow, MT, Tilmer (Sandy) Gienger, Valley City, ND, and Ross (Jolynn) Gienger, Jamestown; 12 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and three brothers, Richard (Marelina) Spitzer, Minneapolis, MN, Delano (Diane) Spitzer, Minneapolis, MN, and Herbert Spitzer, Streeter, ND.
She was preceded in death by her parents; one grandchild; six brothers; and two sisters.
Funeral Service: 10:30 AM, Monday, November 15, 2010 at St. Paul's United Methodist Church, Jamestown, with Pastor David Bambas officiating.
Visitation: 2:00 to 8:00 PM, Sunday, November 14, 2010 at the Eddy Funeral Home, Jamestown, ND.
Prayer Service: 5:00 PM, Sunday, November 14, 2010 at the Eddy Funeral Chapel.
Burial: Sunset Memorial Gardens, Jamestown, North Dakota
