Ernest Klostreich, 94, Jamestown, North Dakota went to be with the Lord, November 3, 2010 at Ave Maria Village in Jamestown, after a courageous battle with cancer.
Ernest was born August 28, 1916 on the family farm near Wentworth, South Dakota, to Carl and Julia (Witt) Klostreich. The family later moved to a farm never Cleveland, North Dakota and he attended school in Cleveland. Ernest married Lea Moser November 1936. Lea and Ernest moved to Jamestown, where Ernest was employed at the Coca-Cola Bottling Company. They later farmed near Medina and Carrington, North Dakota.
His fondness for horses began as a young child and continued for the rest of his life. He enjoyed riding his horse across the prairie and of his numerous horses, his favorites included his two work horses, Gerdie and Mae.
When the family moved to Jamestown he operated Ernie's Service Station. He worked for many years as a carpenter for Moline construction and building churches for LaQua & Sons. Prior to retirement Ernest worked as a custodian at Jamestown College.
Ernest enjoyed traveling, Gospel Music, working with his hands, maintaining his yard, and woodworking that included making wooden horses. He was a member of the St. Paul United Methodist Church and the Germans from Russia. Ernest participated in several parades and sang in the choir with the Germans from Russia. A highlight was performing with the choir at a Bismarck State College Theater Production. Later he life he valued the companionship with his special friend, Odella Mathias. Up until several months prior to his death, he exercised daily with walks, lifting weights, and walking on his tread mill. His family will always remember his kindness and unique sense of humor.
He greatly enjoyed the numerous athletic accomplishments and special events of his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren at local, state and national, and international levels. A proud moment of Ernest was realizing his son, Don's inductions as a coach to numerous Athletic Hall of Fames, including the National Wrestling Hall of Fame.
Ernest is survived by two sons, Donald (Faith) of Yuma, AZ and Wallace (Corinne) of Bismarck, ND; three daughters, Dorene Steckler, Diane Klostreich and Raeanne (Don) Sommerdorf, all of Jamestown; one brother, Art (Elma) Klostreich, Bismarck, ND; numerous grandchildren; great-grandchildren; great-great grandchild; and nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Lea; one son, William \""Bill\""; parents; two brothers; and five sisters.
Funeral Service: 2:00 PM, Monday, November 8, 2010 at St. Paul's United Methodist Church, Jamestown, with Pastor David Bambas officiating.
Visitation: 2:00 to 7:00 PM, Sunday, November 7, 2010 at the Eddy Funeral Home, Jamestown, North Dakota.
Prayer Service: 7:00 PM, Sunday, November 7, 2010 at the Eddy Funeral Chapel.
Burial: Highland Home Cemetery, Jamestown, North Dakota.
