Ervin Adolph Carlson, 87, Jamestown, North Dakota, died Wednesday, June 4, 2008 at his home in rural Jamestown.
Ervin was born July 1, 1920, in Homer Township, Stutsman County, North Dakota, the son of Theo and Mathilda (Daede) Carlson. He grew and attended rural school in Homer Township. Ervin entered the US Army on March 30, 1942 at Ft. Snelling, MN and served in the European African Middle Eastern Theater. He was proud to have served his country and was honorably discharged on November 1, 1945 from Camp McCoy, WI.
Upon his return to North Dakota, Ervin continued his lifelong calling of farming. He was a good steward of the land and loved to farm. On February 12, 1951 Ervin married Phyllis Layton at St. John's Lutheran Church in Jamestown. They became the proud parents of five daughters.
Ervin was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church; the Eagles; VFW; American Legion; the Farmers Union and Homer Township Board.
Ervin enjoyed hunting and fishing. He loved life and lived it to its fullest.
Ervin is survived by four daughters, Mary (Gerald) Nicklay, New Ulm, MN, Diane Carlson, Jamestown, Nancy Carlson, Bismarck, ND and Sarah Carlson (Chuck Council), Helena, MT; one son-in-law, Tom Peterson, Jamestown; six grandchildren and one great-grandson.
He was preceded in death by his wife; parents; one daughter, Connie Peterson; one sister, Muriel Gasal; and three brothers, Ivan, Alfred and Howard in infancy.
Funeral Service: 11:00 AM, Monday, June 9, 2008 at St. John's Lutheran Church, Jamestown, with Pastor Dennis Ellingsen officiating.
Visitation: 1:00 to 7:00 PM, Sunday, June 8, 2008 at the Eddy Funeral Home in Jamestown, North Dakota.
Prayer Service: 7:00 PM, Sunday, June 8, 2008 at the Eddy Funeral Chapel.
Burial: Sunset Memorial Gardens, Jamestown, North Dakota
