Esther Johnson

Esther Johnson, 88, of Jamestown, ND, died Tuesday, January 27, 2009, at Hi-Acres Manor Nursing Home, Jamestown.

Esther Schaefer was born June 26, 1920 at Rogers, North Dakota, the daughter of George and Minnie (Zaun) Schaefer. She attended rural Madison school in Barnes County. After graduation, Esther worked various jobs in Rogers, ND; St. Paul, MN; and Valley City, ND. On July 11, 1947 Esther married Warren Johnson in Valley City. They lived in Valley City before moving to Jamestown in 1960. Warren died April 28, 1989.

Esther was a wonderful mother. She was an excellent seamstress and enjoyed making quilts, cross-stitching and crafts. She enjoyed raising her family and loved spending time with her children; grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Jamestown.

Esther is survived by five children, Judy (Tony) Tunnel, Tennessee, Rodney Johnson and Jill Tahran, both of Jamestown, Robert (Janice) Johnson, Las Vegas, NV, and Joel Johnson, Connecticut; six grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; one sister, Marlene Sheldon, Buffalo, ND; and a son-in-law, Ric McKay, Jamestown.

She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; daughter, Jan McKay; son-in-law, Don Tahran; one brother, George Schaefer; and three sisters, Elaine Erickson, Adeline Lutz, and Jo Weber.

Funeral Service: 1:00 PM, Monday, February 2, 2009 at Trinity Lutheran Church, Jamestown, with Pastor Rich Fitzer officiating.

Visitation: 1:00 to 8:00 PM, Sunday, February 1, 2009 at the Eddy Funeral Home in Jamestown, ND.

Burial in the spring: Getchel Cemetery, Valley City, North Dakota.
