Esther Maine

Esther Maine, 97, Jamestown, ND, died Monday, September 4, 2006 at Hi-Acre Manor, Jamestown, ND.
Esther Ruth Froehlich was born June 28, 1909 at Taunton, MN, the daughter of John W. and Freida (Oetzmann) Froehlich. She was raised and began school in Taunton, MN. In 1918, she moved with her family to a farm southeast of Montpelier, ND. She finished her education at the Manns Township School near Montpelier. In 1936, she married Bert Boughton and they settled on a farm near Montpelier, ND. Bert died on December 20, 1955. Esther moved into Montpelier and, in 1963, married Alfred Maine. Esther worked as a cook for the Montpelier School. Alfred died in October of 1981 and Esther later moved to Jamestown, ND where she was employed by Jamestown Hospital and the North Dakota State Hospital.
Esther was baptized in 1909 and was confirmed into the Lutheran Faith in 1924. She was a member of the James River Valley Church and later Immanuel Lutheran Church of Jamestown. She taught Sunday School and was a member of the church choir. She was very involved in community activities including a homemakers' club, circles, making quilts for World Relief, acting as a 4-H leader and clerk for the Montpelier School Board.
Survivors include 2 sons: Roy (Lois) Boughton, Castlewood, SD; Lyle (Judy) Boughton, Rockaway Beach, MO; 3 step-children: Laura Ganser, Jamestown, ND; William Maine, Jamestown, ND; Betty Winters, Wadena, MN; 12 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; 8 great-great-grandchildren and 1 sister, Eleanor Jansen, Adrian, ND.
She was preceded in death by her parents, both husbands, a daughter, Jean, 2 stepsons and 3 brothers.
Funeral - 2:00 p.m. Friday, September 8, 2006 at Immanuel Lutheran Church with Reverend John Syvertson officiating.
