Esther Sorenson

Esther Johnson Sorenson, 96, Jamestown, North Dakota died Tuesday, September 2, 2014 at Ave Maria Village, Nursing Home, Jamestown, ND.

Esther was born April 16, 1918 on the Johnson homestead, rural Woodworth, North Dakota to Gunder and Laura (Bah) Johnson. She attended school in Woodworth and was a graduate of New York Hair Dressing Academy, Fargo, North Dakota.

Esther married Lloyd Sorenson at Buchanan, North Dakota on August 15, 1937. They made their home in Jamestown where they were both employed. She worked the the DeJays Ladies Wear for many years and later managed JoDees Ladies Wear. Following retirement she volunteered as the Elk's Lodge Coat Check Lady for over thirty-five years.

She was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church. She was a past memnber of The Does of the Elk's Lodge. Esther loved gardening, doing crafts and was a avid sports fan.

Esther is survived by one daughter, Linda (James) Townsend, Hoodsport, WA; two grandchildren; Lori Townsend and Jennifer Montes, four great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews including Gary (Carol) Rosenau, Rodney (Vicki) Rosenau, Susan (Kerry) Peuser, Harriet Wahl, Duane O. Johnson, Lois (Duane) Knudson, and Phyllis (Tony) Klose.

She was preceded in death by her husband; two brothers and nine sisters, including her twin, Olga. Esther was the last survivor of her immediate family.

Memorial Service: 10:30 AM, Saturday, September 6, 2014 at St. John's Lutheran Church with Pastor Erik Weber officiating

No visitation is scheduled.

Burial: Buchanan Cemetery, Buchanan, North Dakota

Memorials may be gifted to St. John's Lutheran Church or Ave Maria Village.
