Esther Tripp

Esther Tripp, 86, Jamestown, ND formerly of Pettibone, ND passed away Saturday, August 13, 2016 at Eventide Jamestown.
Esther Leona Walz was born April 19, 1930 to Jacob and Mary (Martin) Walz. She attended grade school thru eighth grade. She then stayed home, due to her mothers health, to help with household duties and help her dad in their family run Red Owl Store.
On July 12, 1951 Esther married Marlin Tripp at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Pettibone. Esther was a busy women. She was a farm wife when they first married and also helped milk cows for four years on a farm they owned north of Medina. Because Esther had experience working in her dads store, they moved back to Pettibone and purchased and operated the Pettibone Grocery Store-Tripp's U-Save. She also kept the books when they started Marlin Tripp Trucking and drove a bus route when they owned and operated the Pettibone School Bus System for over 45 years. Esther also worked at the Pettibone Post Office when needed in the late 1960's.
Esther loved to sew and make crafts. She made a lot of her families clothing as they were growing up and a lot of her own clothing, along with sewing and mending for members of the Pettibone community. She made a lot of quilts and baby blankets, and crocheted afghans and doilies. Marlin & Esther also made doll beds and cradles to sell at flea markets. Esther could be found doing baking, crafting and housework listening to polkas and waltzes on the radio humming right along. She loved flowers and spent hours in her yard planting and weeding.
Esther loved her grandchildren deeply. Grandma's cookie jar always had cookies or treats for the taking. Hugs and kisses were abundant, but every once and awhile a scolding was due. Esther was a member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church, Pettibone and the LWML. She helped a lot with decorating of the church for different events and looked forward to doing it.
She entered Eventide at Hi-Acres Manor Nursing Home on September 27, 2006, and after so many years there gained an "extended family".
Esther is survived by three sons, Kirt, Randy and Steve (Valerie), all of Pettibone; nine grandchildren, twenty-nine great-grandchildren, three great-great-grandchildren; one sister, Loretta Halverson, Fargo, ND; one brother, Lawrence (Ellen) Walz, Jamestown, ND; one sister-in-law, Juanita Rohde, Albuquerque, NM and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Marlin, son Keith, daughter-in-law LeAnn, granddaughter Carissa, great-grandson Brett, one brother, Arnold and nine brother-in-laws and three sister-in-laws.

Funeral Service: 10:30 AM, Wednesday, August 17 at Our Saviors Lutheran Church, Pettibone, ND with Pastor Robert Hill, officiating.
Visitation: 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM, Tuesday, August 16 at Eddy Funeral Chapel.
Prayer Service: 7:00 PM, Tuesday at Eddy Funeral Chapel.
Burial: Pettibone Bethlehem Lutheran Cemetery.
