Eugene (Gene) E. Hall, 92, Moorhead (formerly of Jamestown and Woodworth) entered his heavenly home on Saturday, November 14, 2015.
Eugene Emmett Hall was born on May 22, 1923, to Roy and Emma (Norby) Hall at the family home in Vashti, ND. He attended grades 1-8 at Vashti from 1930-1937. He left Vashti in 1938 to seek employment and worked various places in Montana and Washington before landing in Portland, OR, in 1943 where he drove milk truck for Farmers' Dairy Association. It was in Portland where he married the love of his life, Emelia Liberda, on September 12, 1943. Gene and Emelia moved to Woodworth, ND, in the fall of 1945. From this union, they were blessed with six children. Gene worked for Hector Construction from 1945-1952 where he operated a rock crusher and other heavy equipment. He began farming in the Woodworth area in 1952, a vocation he loved. Emelia passed away in 1979.
Gene moved to Jamestown in 1983 and married Lavon Flemmer on May 19, 1984. He had a lawn care and snow removal business from 1984-2010. Lavon passed away in 1998.
Gene was active in his church and community. He was a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church where he was treasurer for 15 years and chairman of the building committee in 1968. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church for a time and Concordia Lutheran Church, Jamestown, ND, before moving to Moorhead, MN, in the fall of 2013 to live with his daughter, Loretta. He was a member of Beautiful Savior Lutheran Church, Fargo, ND, at the time of his death.
Gene was well known for his bright, welcoming smile and contagious laugh. He brought joy to many by delivering church bulletins and meals on wheels to shut-ins, transporting people to doctors' appointments, and caring for many. He enjoyed playing cribbage, baking pies, and making jellies for which he won many ribbons at both the Stutsman County and ND State Fairs. He was loved and adored by his children and grandchildren and was a faithful friend.
Gene is survived by his six children: Harlan (Diane), Apache Junction, AZ; Allen, Yuma, AZ; Loretta Swanson, Moorhead, MN; Donna (Leroy) Masseth, Tucson, AZ; Robert, Jacksonville, FL; Geneal (Carlyle) Roth, Minot, ND; two sisters: Marian Conlin, Sauk Centre, MN, and Rhoda McCarthy, Rio Rancho, NM; one sister-in-law: Irene Hall, Bismarck, ND; 12 grandchildren, 3 step-grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren, 6 step-great grandchildren, 3 great-great grandchildren, and 2 great-great step grandchildren.
