Eugene Emil Redmann, 93, passed away peacefully at Ave Maria Village in Jamestown, ND, on December 28, 2014.
Gene was born in Sydney, ND on October 20, 1921 to Stella (Schmidt) and Emil Redmann. He graduated from Millarton High School in 1940 and in 1942 was called into the service of the U.S. Army in Camp Crowder, Missouri. Gene was stationed in Fort Lewis, Washington before being sent to Tinian in the South Pacific as part of the occupation of Japan, in World Warr II. Gene was very proud of his military service.
He married Hazel Nichols in Moorhead, MN on September 22, 1944. Following his discharge in 1946, he and Hazel moved to Jamestown where they lived, worked and raised a family of four children, the first of which was born while he was in the service. Hazel passed away in 2006.
Gene worked for Northwestern Bell from 1946 until his retirement in 1982. He had endless stories of his days at the phone company, from repairing telephone lines downed from winter storms all across the Midwest, to enjoying a cup of coffee with a customer after installing a phone in their home. He worked hard to provide for his family.
Upon his retirement Gene continued his association with the telephone industry by delivering phone books in and around Jamestown. This work kept him in touch with people, yet provided ample time to golf and also enjoy regular coffee gatherings and story telling sessions with his good friends. He lived independently until April, at which time he moved into Ave Maria Village in Jamestown. Gene appreciated both the company and the care he received while he was a resident.
Gene is survived by two daughters and two sons and their families; Linda (Jerry) Suko of Bismark, ND; Gene (Kathy) of Jamestown, ND; Beth Swanson, Bismark, ND and special friend Fred Landgrebe, and Tom (Paula) of Bismark, ND.
