Evelyn Tompkins, 83, Fargo, North Dakota, formerly of Jamestown, ND, died Friday, June 13, 2008 at Innovis Health Center in Fargo.
Evelyn Wooddell was born November 29, 1924 in Windsor Township, Stutsman County, North Dakota, the daughter of Roy and Cecelia (Dougherty) Wooddell. She graduated from Eldridge High School where she participated in basketball, 1939-1942, as well as served on the girl's athletic staff.
She married Darrel N. Tompkins on February 14, 1944. They farmed near Eldridge until 1961 when they moved to Jamestown. She worked at Jim's Super Valu, Dakota Bake N Serve, White Drug and Western Gear, from where she retired. During retirement, she also volunteered at Hi-Acres Manor for three years, one day a week.
Evelyn enjoyed doing crossword puzzles, cooking, baking, embroidering, dancing, bowling and playing cards.
She moved to Fargo in June 2003 to Evergreens Assisted Living. She enjoyed watching the Minnesota Twins and playing with her great-grandchildren.
Evelyn is survived by her daughter, Denise (Elliott) Kabanuk, Fargo; a daughter-in-law, Kathi Tompkins, Jamestown; seven grandchildren, Lance Kabanuk, Shannon (Rita) Tompkins, Krina (Kabanuk)(Steve) Larson, Nathan Tompkins, Melissa (Tompkins)(George) Burke, Elisha Kabanuk, Matthew (Amanda) Tompkins; eight great-grandchildren; one sister, Elga Weisgram, Lisbon, ND and one brother, Willis (Betty) Wooddell, Jamestown.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Darrel; son, David; and daughter, Lou Ann.
Funeral Service: 2:00 PM, Wednesday, June 18, 2008 at St. John's Lutheran Church, Jamestown, with Pastor John Syvertson officiating.
Visitation: 10:00 AM to 12:30 PM, Wednesday, June 18, 2008 at Eddy Funeral Home in Jamestown and one hour before the service at the church.
Burial: Sunset Memorial Gardens, Jamestown, North Dakota
