Ewald Schempp, 82, Jamestown, North Dakota died Sunday, June 27, 2004 at Jamestown Hospital, Jamestown.
Ewald was born January 12, 1922 in Fredonia, North Dakota the son of Frederick and Justina (Dittus) Schempp. When he was 3 years old the family moved to Pettibone, ND where he grew up and attended schools. He entered the U.S. Army in December 1942 and served in the Southeast Asiatic Pacific Theatre. He helped build with the ""C"" Company of the 1913th Engineer Aviation Battalion at the Clark Air Field in the Phillipines. He was discharged in December 1945. Ewald married Ann Guthmiller on December 14, 1947 in Jamestown. They farmed 10 miles west of Montpelier, ND in the Millarton/Sydney area from the time of his discharge until they moved to Jamestown in August 2001 where they have made their home since. Ewald also worked at the ND State Hospital and the Jamestown Hospital.
He was a member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church, Jamestown.
Ewald is survived by his wife, Ann; two sons, Dennis Schempp, Jamestown and Jeff Schempp, Montpelier, ND; two daughters, Sandra (Charles) Dathe, LaMoure, ND and DeLayne Potts, LaMoure, ND; 13 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, three sisters, one brother, one step-sister and three step-brothers.
Funeral Service: 1:30 PM, Thursday, July 1, 2004 at Our Savior's Lutheran Church, Jamestown with Rev. Roland Gurgel officiating.
Visitation: 1:00 to 9:00 PM, Wednesday, June 30, 2004 at the Eddy Funeral Home.
Burial: Sunset Memorial Gardens, Jamestown, North Dakota.
