Fern Flanders

Fern Flanders, 97, Wishek, North Dakota died Saturday, February 9, 2008 at Wishek Nursing Home, Wishek, North Dakota. Fern Hart was born November 11, 1910 in Chasley, North Dakota to Edward and Bertha (Barcus) Hart. Fern received her education in the Chasley schools. On July 20, 1927, Fern married Henry ""Hank"" Flanders in Chasley, North Dakota. They lived at Heaton, ND, Lake Williams, ND and finally Pettibone, ND, their last home together. Fern was an excellent cook, seamstress, quilter, providing quilts for each of her children and grandchildren. She loved to bake and could take most any ingredients and come up with something good baked. Her children loved to come home from school to the smells of fresh baked food. Always had a large garden and could make anything grow and then can the vegetables. She also could sew most anything from suits to gowns. She would look at a dress in a catalog or magazine and then from a newspaper cut out a pattern. They raised cattle, 200 or more sheep, pigs, ducks, geese, turkeys and lots of chickens. Lots of company came on Sunday so Saturdays were spent preparing food if unexpected company arrived. Fern was a 4-H leader. She is survived by two daughters, Phyllis Laber, Jamestown, ND, Elaine Blinsky, Wishek, ND; three sons, Gerald, Seal Beach, CA, Merrill (Arlene), Robinson, ND, Marlow (Paula), Pettibone, ND; twenty-three grandchildren, forty-eight great grandchildren, forty-four great-great grandchildren and one great-great-great grandchild; three brothers, Clayton Hart, Mesa, AZ, Gary Hart, Newport, VA, Warren Hart, Chasley, ND; four sisters, LaVern Malinski, Carrington, ND, Arlyss Kohler, Ottertail, MN, Jean King, West Palm Beach, Fla., Kay Brackin, Sacramento, CA. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, three brothers, Orville, Myron, Caroll, three sisters, Gladys, Lois, Joanne, one grandson, one great grandson, three sisters-in-law, three brothers-in-law and two sons-in-law.

Funeral Service: 11:00 AM, Thursday, February 14, 2008 at Eddy Funeral Home with Pastor Bryce Tahran, officiating.

Visitation: 1:00 PM to 5:00 PM, Wednesday, February 13 at Eddy Funeral Home

Burial: Sunset Memorial Gardens
