Fern Luee Liechty

Fern LueE (Johnson) Liechty, 79 years old, Jamestown, ND, went to be with the Lord on March 15, 2011. She passed away while at her winter home in Rockwall, TX.

Fern, daughter of Ludwig and Freja (Norgren) Johnson, was born on February 17, 1932 in Swede Township, near Kulm, ND. Fern was the youngest of 15 children - 8 boys and 7 girls. She grew up on a farm in Swede Township, and graduated Kulm high school in 1949. After high school, she worked in the Seattle area for two years. She then returned to North Dakota and traveled with Paul and Jean Liechty, helping them with evangelistic services. She was united in marriage to Jonathan Liechty of Brinsmade, ND, in June of 1953 at Kulm, ND. Fern and Jon lived on a farm in the Brinsmade, ND area, where they farmed together. In 1958, they moved to Jamestown, ND, and started farming near the Montpelier area. In 1961, they moved to their farm southwest of Montpelier, where they resided until 1991, at which time they moved to Jamestown, where they currently reside. During Fern’s married years, she kept busy with farm life, raised three children, and traveled with Jon all over the US and abroad for various farming and missions ventures. She enjoyed gardening, cooking and baking and even authored her own cookbook. Music was a large part of her life; she enjoyed singing, playing/accompanying on the piano, organ and accordion, and led the choir for many years at the Jamestown Assembly of God Church. She was also an active leader in the Missionette girl’s program, Women’s Ministries, the Senior Adult group, and various other Christian organizations in the community, including the Gideons Women’s Auxiliary.

Fern is survived by her husband Jonathan (of 57 years), two daughters; Sherry (William) Owen, Bothell, WA, and Jeania (Larrie) Lambeth, Rowlett, TX, one son; Jeffrey (Crystal) Liechty, Rockwall, TX, four grandchildren; Jonathan David (Brianna) Liechty, Lewisville, TX, April Segura, Rowlett, TX, Lisa Koester, Rowlett, TX, and JaqLynn Liechty, Rockwall, TX, one great-grandchild; Miriam Liechty, Lewisville, TX, one sister; Marilyn (Paul) Gage, Fargo, ND, brothers-in-law; Roland Sjostrom, Kulm, ND, Morris Sjostrom, Kulm, ND, Ezra Liechty, Jamestown, ND, Silas (Martha) Liechty, Jamestown, ND, Reuben (Clarice) Liechty, Jamestown, ND, sisters-in-law; Julia Liechty, Berne, IN, Jean Liechty, Heath, TX, and several nieces and nepehws.

She was preceded in death by her parents, eight brothers, five sisters, several brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, and several nieces and nephews.
