Floyd Fredenburg, 89, Edgeley, ND died Wednesday, October 15, 2008 at Jamestown Hospital, Jamestown, ND.
Floyd Fredenburg was born April 19, 1919 in rural Edgeley, ND, the son of Walter and Ethel (Haas) Fredenburg. He was raised and attended school in the Edgeley, ND area, graduating from Edgeley High School in 1937. He attended Ellendale Normal College and graduated from North Dakota State University. He taught in a one-room school in Nora Township, was a high school teacher in Nortonville, ND and taught a farm training course in LaMoure, ND. In 1942, he joined the United States Air Force, serving in WWII as a navigator/bombardier in the South Pacific. Following his discharge in 1945, he returned to Edgeley, ND. He married LaVerne Ogren on February 3, 1945 in Midland, Texas and they moved to the Fredenburg family farm in Edgeley, ND. Floyd went into the Farmer's Union Insurance business in 1959 and also continued farming. He retired in 1982.
Floyd was active in the Edgeley Community, serving in many ways. He was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church where he taught Sunday School, sang in the choir and served on the board. He was a charter member of the Dakota Plains Credit Union; served on the ASCS board for nine years and was a member of Farmer's Union Oil Company and Farmer's Union Grain boards. Floyd was a democratic nominee for the State House of Representatives in 1956. He was a member of the Veteran's of Foreign Wars. In later years, Floyd was an advocate for Senior Citizens as a delegate to the Silver Hair Legislature in Bismarck. He also delivered Senior Meals in Edgeley.
Survivors include LaVerne, his wife of 63 years; 3 sons: Bruce (JoAnn) Fredenburg, Edgeley, ND; Reed (Cheryl) Fredenburg, Edgeley, ND; Miles (Jean) Fredenburg, Shoreview, MN; 4 grandchildren; 3 step-grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Viola Fredenburg, Moorhead, MN and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Wesley; a sister, Wilma; a daughter-in-law, Holly and a grandson, Cole.
Funeral - 11:00 a.m. Saturday, October 18, 2008 at Wesley United Methodist Church, Edgeley, ND.
Prayer Service - 7:00 p.m. Friday, October 17, 2008 at Lisko Funeral Chapel, Edgeley, ND
Visitation - 10:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. Friday, October 17, 2008 at Lisko Funeral Chapel, Edgeley, ND and 1 hour prior to services at the church on Saturday.
Interment - Mount Hope Cemetery, Edgeley, ND
