Frank Weigel, Jr.

Frank Weigel Jr, 75, of Edgeley, ND died Sunday, March 5, 2017 at St Rose Care Center in LaMoure, ND after fighting a courageous battle with ALS.

Frank Jr. was born August 22, 1941 on the family farm in Berlin, ND. He was the son of Frank Sr. and Magdalina (Aberle) Weigel.

Frank grew up on the farm and attended school in Berlin. He worked many various jobs such as road work for the LaMoure County Road Department, Edgeley Creamery, Experimental Station, Peavey Elevator, Royal Farms Dairy, before finding his longtime career at Dakota Valley Electric as a lineman where he worked for 27 years.

Frank married Martha Feist on June 22, 1963 at the Transfiguration Catholic Church in Edgeley where they were lifelong residents of Edgeley and raised four children.

Frank’s pride and joy was bringing old tractors back to life for a second chance as well as repairing numerous salvaged Buicks. He enjoyed hobby farming which he used his tractors for putting up hay for his cattle and anyone else who was looking for hay. He also enjoyed traveling, watching movies, playing cards, puzzles, listening to polka music, dancing and spending time with his grandchildren.

Upon retiring in 2003 he drove school bus for the Edgeley School District which he absolutely loved. Frank was an active member of the Transfiguration Catholic Church and on the cemetery board for Mount Calvary. Frank enjoyed spending his mornings with the daily coffee group.

Anybody who knew Frank knows he loved Coca-Cola and shiny clean cars! Many in the community will remember him for his sense of humor and willingness to help others. Even though ALS took his mobility away and his ability to communicate he still made people laugh, played jokes, and loved to laugh. Frank will be greatly missed as well as his homemade chicken noodle soup and his homemade beef jerky.

Frank is survived and loved by his wife, Martha; four children, Jeff (Pam) Weigel, Fargo, ND, Brenda (Brad) Kosir, Fargo, ND, Kevin, Denver, CO, and Wendy, Fargo, ND; three grandchildren, Courtney, Amber, and Lexi Kosir all Fargo, ND; five brothers and one sister, Tony (Irene) Weigel, Edgeley, ND, Lawrence (Jan) Weigel, Horace, ND, Raymond (Virginia) Weigel, Edgeley, ND, Victor (Bev) Weigel, Edgeley, ND, Marianne Cardwell, LaMoure, ND, Robert (Sue) Weigel, Bismarck, ND; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Maggie; brother, Rochus; and brother-in-law, Jack Cardwell.

Mass of Christian Burial: 10:30 a.m., Friday, March 10, 2017 at Transfiguration Catholic Church, Edgeley, ND.

Visitation : 4:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m., Thursday, March 9, 2017 at the church.

Rosary : 6:30 p.m., Thursday, March 9, 2017 with a Vigil Service to follow at the church.

Interment: Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Edgeley.
