Fred Geigle

Fred Joel Geigle, 67, Jamestown, North Dakota passed away Sunday, August 14, 2011 at Veterans Hospital, Fargo, ND, under hospice care.

Fred was born April 27, 1944 in Jamestown to Fred G. and Ella (Giedt) Geigle. He graduated from Jamestown High School with the Class of 1962. In December 1963 he enlisted in the US Navy and served as Yeoman 2nd class on the USS Navasota, USS Mars and the USS Banner during the Vietnam War. He was honorably discharged in January 1968. After discharge Fred moved to Washington to work for the railroad, later he was employed as a private detective for an investigating agency. After moving back to North Dakota he was a licensed real estate salesman and also worked as the property manager for Severson Real Estate Co. in Grand Forks, then became the manager for the Brass Rail in Jamestown. In looking for a warmer climate, he moved to Apache Junction, AZ taking a position as a test driver for GMC. He retired to Jamestown in 2008 to be closer to friends and family. His hobby was genealogy and was very proud of the work he had done on the histories of the Geigle and Giedt families. He was a member of the Germans from Russia Heritage Society and VFW.

While at the VA hospital Fred had the honor of meeting the US Secretary of Veterans Affairs (General) Eric Shinseki and visited with Rear Admiral Mark Guadagnini, Deputy Commander for Fleet Management and Chief of Staff US Fleet Forces Command.

Fred is survived by three brothers, Richard (Lynda), Jamestown, Tim, Brandon, SD and Paul Haney, Alaska; nieces, Terry (Dave) Larkin, MI, Carmen (Brad) Schaffer, MN and nephews, Ryan (Lucy) Geigle, Jamestown, Robert, Mandan, ND, Bryan (Mariah), Haney, CA, Erik Haney, Seattle, WA; and 8 grand-nieces and nephews.

Fred was preceded in death by his father, Fred (1944); mother, Ella (2007) and brother, Melvin (1958).
