Freda was born September 7, 1929, to Gilbert and Clara (Skare) Benson in Pingree, ND. She attended Deerlake Township schools. Freda was working at a café in Jamestown when she met James A Telken. They were married June 12, 1951, and had seven amazing children: Barbara Jean, Deborah Lynn, Marion Frances, Sandra Kay, Vickie Ranae , Henry James , and Tony Ernest.
Freda was membership chairperson for the American Legion Auxiliary for many years and past president of both the American Legion Auxiliary and the Eagles Auxiliary. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary, the Eagles Auxiliary and Trinity Lutheran Church. Freda enjoyed being with her children and grandchildren and going to the casino, playing dice, bingo, and cards. She loved to have people come to visit. Her favorite saying was “uff da”, true to her Norwegian heritage.
Freda passed away on April 9, 2017, while surrounded by her children. She is now “Free-da” be with the lord and be with the loved ones that passed on before her. She was preceded in death by her husband on August 9, 2002; her daughter Barbara on October 11, 2008; a great-grandson Gaven Rodgers on March 1, 2002; her parents, brothers and sisters-in-law Burton, Edward, and Arnold (Iris); sisters and brothers-in-law Lillian (Donald) Rowell, Myrtle (Fred) Schutt, Pearl (Bob) Pruess, and Gladys (Glenn) Thelen; and two half-brothers Bennie and Kenny.
Freda is survived by six children Deborah (Gordon)Anderson, Bismarck, Marion (Dale) Seckerson, Sandra (Gary) Orr, Vickie (Thomas) Steckler, and Hank (Natalie) Telken, Jamestown, and Tony (Fiancée Tracy Hulse) Telken Grand Forks; one son-in-law, Carter Berg; 20 grandchildren Kristin (Michael) Simons , Becky (Dallas) Dollinger, Pam (Joe) McKinnon , Angela (John) Maxson, Sarah (Bryan) Yantzer, Dusty (Sarah) Anderson, Aimee (Scott) Brekke, Corey (Shawn) Seckerson, Jodi (friend Jay Jackson) Seckerson, Kaylee (Ben) Rodgers, Rick (Steph) Orr, Bobby Orr, Casey (fiancée Chelsie Voeller) Orr, Brian (Amanda) Steckler, Jeffrey (Danielle) Steckler, Elizabeth (Brad) Carlson, Emily (Jens) Houmann, James Henry Telken, Chelsee Telken, and Wyatt Telken; 41 great grandchildren, one brother and three sisters-in-law Gilbert (Delphine), Verlyn Benson, and Shirley Benson.
Memorials are preferred to Trinity Lutheran Church or the American Legion.
Funeral service will be 10:30 AM, Saturday, April 15 at Trinity Lutheran Church, Jamestown, ND with Pastor Kristi Weber, officiating. Family will be receiving friends from 1:00 PM to 8:00 PM, Friday at Eddy Funeral Chapel. Burial will be in Buchanan Cemetery.
