Frederick ""Fred"" Schuler, Jr, 101, Jamestown, North Dakota, died Tuesday, January 19, 2010 at Ave Maria Village in Jamestown.
Fred was born December 21, 1908 in Jamestown, the son of Frederick and Philabena (Scholl) Schuler. He was baptized by Rev. E.C. Hess and later confirmed at the Congregational Church in Medina by Rev. Henry Hoersch. He received his education at various rural Stutsman County schools. In 1936-37, Fred went to Minneapolis, MN where he shoveled coal for the railroad. Upon his return to North Dakota, he started to establish his own farmstead. On November 21, 1953 Fred married Esther Julia Goter, in Jamestown. They lived and farmed in Paris township until 1975, when they moved to Jamestown. In various ways, Fred continued to farm until the age of 95. He later performed custodial work for R.M. Stoudt Ford, Franklin School and the James Valley Vocational Center for nine years.
Fred served on the Paris Township School Board and was a trustee and voter at Our Saviors Lutheran Church for many years. He was a loving husband and father who enjoyed reading of his Savior, attending church, farming, horses, and especially children of all ages.
Fred is survived by his daughter, Phyllis Esther Schuler, Jamestown; three sisters, Bertha Bauer, Lodi, CA, Lydia Noonan, Longmont, CO and Sophia (Harold) Beckman, Ypsilanti, ND; goddaughter, Donna Moos, Davenport, ND; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife; four sisters, Lena Wolf, Emily Bauer, Emma Leimer and Elizabeth Leimer; and Christ, and twins, Ted and Ed.
