Garth O. Madcke

Garth Owen Madcke, 76, Pelican Rapids, MN, formerly of Jamestown, ND, died Sunday, April 3, 2011, at the VA Medical Center, Fargo.

Garth was born July 16, 1934 in Jud, ND the son of Julius and Anna (Stickel) Madcke, where he grew up and graduated from high school.

He married Betty Jean Johnson on Sept. 4, 1953. She died in 2007. He served in the U.S. Army from 1954-1955. After his discharge, he attended college in Ellendale, ND. He taught at various schools in North Dakota and Montana. He worked for Cen-Dak Leasing and R.M. Stoudt in Jamestown.

Garth loved sports. He was especially passionate about his Green Bay Packers. He loved spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Garth is survived by his children, Mark and Kevin (Cal) both Edgeley, ND, Julie (Clyde) Staus, Pelican Rapids, MN,and Debra (Les) Specht, Spiritwood, ND; his grandchildren Chad (Jeannie) Staus, Lance Staus, Misty (Aaron) Westover, Kylie Grenz and Alexa Grenz; great-grandchildren Dylan, Olivia and Lola Westover and Sydney and Annabelle Staus; brother Al (Norma) Madcke; sister Lynda (Ambrose) Dunn both Edgeley; his partner Jan Buck, Pelican Rapids, MN; brother-in-law Gordon (Skip) Johnson; sisters-in-law, Arlene Trautman, Fergus Falls, MN, Lorraine Bennett, Dorothy Gums all Jamestown, JoAnn (Bruce) Nelson, Bismarck and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife.

A private memorial service will be held at a later date.
