Gary Lee Finck

Gary Lee Finck, 75, Jamestown, ND died on Wednesday, July 8, 2020 at his home in Jamestown.

Gary Lee Finck was born on August 4, 1944 in a sod house on a farm near Carson, ND to Edgar and Irene (Rath) Finck.

Gary spent his early years on grandpa Rath’s farm in Elgin while Edgar was serving in the Army during WWII. When Edgar returned, the family went to Fargo while he attended Barber College. On completion of Barber College, the family moved to Glen Ullin for ten years, where Gary and Harold attended school and worked odd jobs. During that time two brothers and sisters were added to the family.

In 1959, the family moved to Jamestown. Gary attended Jamestown High School and graduated in 1964. After graduation he worked at some construction and joined the Navy in September of 1964 with his brother, Harold. He attended basic training at Great Lakes, IL and his first assignment was to the Naval Air Station-Meridian, Miss. During his time in Meridian, he met and married Linda (Linnevold) in 1967 and together they continued his Navy career. In 1968 Gary and Linda were transferred to Roosevelt Roads, Puerto Rico. Their daughter, Susan was born on November 8, 1969 and they again were transferred to Naval Air Station Kingsville, TX where Gary continued to work on Jets. 1974 and their son Troy was born. Again, their family was transferred in 1976 to the Naval Air Station in Oak Harbor, WA where Gary’s unit was assigned to the USS John Kennedy and made UMO Cruise in Mediterranean x2 Area. 1979 transferred back to Kingsville, 1982 Gary made world cruise on the USS Coral Sea and transferred to Lemoore, CA. Gary then retired in 1984 from the Navy after serving 20 years as a 1st Class AMT with good conduct.

Gary and his family moved to Jamestown where he worked for J.T. beverage for 20 years delivering Coors Beer. He enjoyed being able to meet many great people while working that job. After that he worked part time at NAPA.

He was an avid hunter and fisherman and enjoyed those activities with family and friends. Gary was also a member of Buffalo City Gun Club and enjoyed trap shooting as well as served as a board member. He loved spending time with his grandchildren and was very proud of his grandsons’ military service.

Gary and his family enjoyed their retreat and hunting house (The Roost) in New Leipzig, ND and the company of many friends there.

Gary is survived by his wife, Linda, his children; Susan (Jamie) Anderson and Troy (Marcia) Finck, both of Rapid City, SD, grandchildren; Riley and Gracie Finck, Rapid City, Cole Anderson, Rapid City, brothers; Rodney Finck, Colorado Springs, CO, Perry Finck, Jamestown, and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; Edgar and Irene Finck, brothers; Harold and Todd, sister, Sylvia, nephews; Matt Finck and Trevor Hadley, and niece, Laiah Tane.

Gary will be deeply missed by his family and many friends.

Visitation: 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., Monday, July 13, 2020 at Eddy Funeral Home, Jamestown.

Prayer Service: 7:00 p.m., Monday, July 13, 2020 at Eddy Funeral Home, Jamestown.

Funeral Service: 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, July 14, 2020 at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Jamestown with Pastor Lucinda Lien officiating.

Burial: 1:00 p.m., Tuesday, July 14, 2020 at the North Dakota Veteran’s Cemetery, Mandan, ND.
