Gary Neys

Gary Michael Neys, 73, of Buchanan, ND, passed away peacefully on December 3, 2024, at Sanford Hospital in Fargo, surrounded by his beloved family. Gary was born on May 9, 1951, in Jamestown, ND, to Louis and Gertrude (Blaskowski) Neys. He lived a life full of kindness, love, and dedication to his family and community.

Gary graduated with honors from Buchanan High School in 1969 and went on to attend the University of North Dakota and North Dakota State University. In the spring of 1974, Gary returned to Buchanan to pursue his passion for farming and raising cattle, a calling that brought him close to the land and the community he cherished. On June 28, 1974, he married the love of his life, Donna Wahl, at St. James Catholic Church in Jamestown. Together they built a life rooted in love, faith, and family.

Throughout his life, Gary was deeply involved in his community, serving on numerous boards, including the Buchanan Farmers Elevator, the Rural Fire Department, James River Valley Township, and Future Farmers of America. He was a member of St. Margaret Mary’s Catholic Church, Buchanan, ND. His commitment to these organizations reflected his dedication to improving the lives of those around him.

Gary will be remembered for his warmth and generosity. His smile could light up a room, and his hugs made everyone feel welcomed and loved. Above all, Gary’s greatest joy was his family. He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather, who found immense pride in his children and grandchildren. Gary cherished sharing his lifelong passion for cattle with his grandchildren and great-nieces and nephews.

Gary is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Donna, Buchanan, ND and his sons Brent Neys, Aberdeen, SD and Dusty (Sheena) Neys, Jamestown, ND.  He is also survived by  his cherished grandchildren: Brady, Mason, Kaitlyn Neys, Aberdeen, SD, Carter Burchill, Hayden, Nolan, and Karlie Neys, Jamestown, ND; and Jaelyn, Kyrah, and Treyton Neys, Jamestown, ND; 5 siblings, Jerry Neys, Buchanan, ND, Deb (Mervyn) Ova, Jamestown, ND, Craig (Terrie) Neys, Jamestown, ND, Ron (Paula) Neys, Northville, MI, Becky (Tim) Prodzinski, West Fargo, ND, and brother-in-law Dan Wahl, Fargo, ND, and many nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Louis and Gertrude Neys; his in-laws, Wilbur and Lorraine Wahl; and his beloved son, Corey Neys.

Gary’s legacy of love and kindness will forever remain in the hearts of all who knew him.

Visitation will be 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM, Tuesday, December 10, 2024 at Eddy Funeral Home.  Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:00 AM, Wednesday, December 11, 2024 at St. James Basilica with The Very Reverend Chad Wilhelm presiding.  Interment will be in St. Margaret Cemetery, Buchanan, ND.
