Gary Sundberg

Gary Ferdinand Sundberg, 66, Jamestown, ND died Friday, October 19, 2007 at Jamestown Hospital after a three year battle with cancer.

Gary was born November 26, 1940 in New Rockford, ND, to the late Margit (Myhre) and Ferdinand Sundberg. He graduated from New Rockford High School, Minot State University with a BS degree, and UND in Grand Forks, ND, with a Masters in Mathematics. Gary worked for Boeing Aircraft Co. in Seattle, Washington, as a junior engineer for one year. Gary married Janet Rance on June 29, 1969 at St. Olaf Lutheran Church in Devils Lake, ND. He taught science and math at Warwick, ND, Glenburn, ND, Rich Township High School (Park Forest, Ill.), Cankdeska Cikana Community College at Fort Totten, ND, Wimbledon-Courtney High School, and New Rockford, ND. In 2006 Gary retired after 26 years of teaching. Gary and Janet owned and operated the Harvey Tastee Freez for twenty years. Gary served as past president of the Harvey Kiwanis Club, First Lutheran Church in Harvey, and Harvey Lions club. He served on the Board of Directors of the Harvey Chamber of Commerce. Gary sang in the Jamestown Atonement Lutheran Church Choir and also the Jamestown Choralaires. He was a member of Dance Club, AMATYC, Mathematical Association of America, NEA, and NDEA. Gary was a loving husband and father. He was guided by a conscience of Christian principles as taught by his parents. Gary's faith was filled with love, justice, and compassion towards others. Gary was a thinker, listener, and believer who looked for the good in every situation. Gary's hobbies included golf, reading, singing, and bowling. He sang solos for friends and family on special occasions. Both Gary & Janet sang duets for various occasions. Gary was an avid sports fan, especially football.

Gary is survived by his wife, Janet, Jamestown; two sons, Chad (Wendy) Sundberg, Maple Grove, MN and Brian Sundberg (fiancé, Katie Prechel) Shakopee, MN; one grandchild, Morgan Sundberg, Maple Grove, MN; two brothers, Bob (Linda) Sundberg, Minot, ND and Paul (Mary Ann) Sundberg, Colorado Springs, CO; two sisters, Shirley (Bill) Finley, Minot, ND and Julie (Fred) Korker, Port St. Lucie, Fla.; two brothers-in-law, Fred (Luella) Rance, Webster, ND and Everett (Gloria) Rance, Devils Lake, ND; two sisters-in-law, Betty Jane Rushfeldt, Oberon, ND, Sharon Rance (friend Beulah Hedahl) Devils Lake, ND; mother-in-law, Ethel Rance, Devils Lake, ND; aunt, Dorothy Sundberg, Huron, SD and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents, sister, Beverly Frazer, nephew Michael Sundberg, father-in-law Fred Rance, brother-in-law, Glen Rushfeldt.

Funeral service: 2:00 PM, Tuesday, October 23, 2007 at Atonement Lutheran Church, Jamestown, ND with the Rev. Steve Berntson, officiating.

Family service: 11:00 AM, Tuesday, October 23, 2007 at Eddy Funeral Home, Jamestown, ND.

Visitation: 11:00 AM to 8:00 PM, Monday, October 22 at Eddy Funeral Home, Jamestown, ND.

Burial: Devils Lake Cemetery, Devils Lake, ND.

In lieu of flowers, memorials preferred to; Relay for Life, Atonement Lutheran Church or Jamestown Hospital and Hospice.
