Gene N. Rude, 60, Ypsilanti, North Dakota died Thursday, November 18, 2010 at his home under the care of hospice.
Gene Norman Rude was born November 10, 1950 in Riverdale, North Dakota, the son of Calmar and Mayme (Enger) Rude. He enlisted in the US Army on December 20, 1967 and was honorably discharged on January 21, 1971. Gene married Julie Lee in 1971 and together they had one daughter, Stacy. Gene married Evelyn Smith on December 29, 1990 in Idaho Falls, Idaho. They moved to Ypsilanti in 1991, where his home has been since. He was a self-employed carpenter and was known as Ypsilanti's handyman.
Gene is survived by his wife, Evelyn, Ypsilanti, ND; one daughter, Stacy Woessner, Fargo, ND; three granddaughters, Haily, Amanda and Hannah, all of Fergus Falls, MN; two brothers, Calmar (Diane) Rude, Jr., Broken Arrow, OK and Keith Rude, Ypsilanti, ND; two sisters, June (Mike) Bjornson, Dalton, MN and Marion Rund, Fergus Falls, MN; and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Recal Fahlsing Nygaard and Violet Spenst; four brothers, Norman, Kenny, Howard and Leo; and a nephew, Robert.
