Genevieve Joyce Murphy

Genevieve Joyce Murphy, 91, Jamestown, N.D., died Monday, February 3, 2003 at her home in Jamestown, N.D.

Genevieve Joyce Rand was born May 30, 1911 in Jamestown, ND the daughter of DeWitt Clinton and Edith (May) Rand. She grew up and attended school in Jamestown, graduating from Jamestown High School in 1929. She attended two years at Jamestown College, then transfered to the University of North Dakota in Grand Forks, ND, where she graduated in 1933. She was a member of the Alpha Phi Sorority.

She married F. E. ""Bud"" Murphy on April 18, 1934 at the St. James Catholic Church in Jamestown, ND. They made their home in Jamestown. She traveled with Bud before World War II, then returned to Jamestown where her home has been since. Bud died on November 18, 2001.

She was a member of the Basilica of St. James, Jamestown Fine Arts Center, American Legion Auxillary, Alpha Phi Sorority, Stutsman County Memorial Museum, and the National Buffalo Museum.

Genevieve is survived by a son, Dennis R. Murphy, of Bismarck, ND; one daughter, Randy (Jerry) Ebertz, of Tuscon, AZ; and a granddaughter, Jillian Ebertz Field, of St. Paul, MN; brother-in-law, William J.D. (Mary) Murphy, of Minneapolis, MN; and sister-in-law, Arlene Murphy, of Jamestown, ND;

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; and two sisters, Lorraine Rasmussen and Justine Flannery.

Funeral Service: 1:00 P.M. - Saturday, February 8, 2003 at Eddy Funeral Chapel, Jamestown, N.D., with Father Bernard Pfau officiating.

No Visitation Scheduled.

Burial: Calvary Cemetery, Jamestown, ND.

Memorials may be sent to Jamestown Hospice, Grace Episcopal Church, or the Basilica of St. James, Jamestown.
