George Perleberg, 91, Jamestown, North Dakota, passed away Wednesday, November 10, 2004 at Jamestown Hospital, Jamestown, leaving behind his family who loved him dearly.
Mr. Perleberg was born April 19, 1913 at Lamberton, Minnesota, to Robert and Amelia (Buetow) Perleberg. When George was 3 years old his family moved to Eldridge, ND by rail with all their belongings in a box car. They then moved by horse to a farmstead about 10 miles northwest of Jamestown. He attended rural school in Hidden Township and continued his education through a lifetime of reading.
He married Garnet V. Fisher, the love of his life, on May 15, 1943 at St. John's Lutheran Church by W.W.A. Keller. They made their home near Buchanan until 1949 when they moved to Jamestown where they resided until his death. George was employed as a house painter for many years. He was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church.
As a young man he maintained a trap line which extended over 20 miles. George enjoyed fishing, trapping and hunting with his sons and grandsons up to his 90th year. He enjoyed gardening and prided himself on fruit trees, bird houses, and telling stories to all his children. Grandpa George was the cornerstone and mentor of all his grandchildren and will be deeply missed.
George is survived by his wife, Garnet of Jamestown and all of his chilren, Judy (Gerry) Scherbenske, Jamestown; Gary (Celie) Perleberg, Big Fork, MT; Rita (Nick) Scherbenske, Jamestown; Arthur (Karen) Perleberg, Broadus, MT and Arnold (Linda) Perleberg, Grand Forks, ND, four sisters, Eleanor Krause, Jamestown; Lillian Cassidy, Fargo, ND; Gertrude Mayer, Minot, ND and Emogene Perleberg, Jamestown; 15 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and five brothers, Wilbur, Lloyd, Lester, Albert and an infant brother, Arthur.
Funeral Service: 1:00 PM, Saturday, November 13, 2004 at St. John's Lutheran Church, Jamestown with Rev. Doug Opp officiating.
Visitation: 9:00 AM to 8:00 PM, Friday, November 12, 2004 at the Eddy Funeral Home.
Burial: Highland Home Cemetery, Jamestown, North Dakota.
