Gertrude J. Gaustad, 80, Jamestown, North Dakota, died Friday, January 27, 2006 at Hi-Acres Manor Nursing Home, Jamestown.
Gertrude Gaustad was born May 26, 1925 in Jamestown, the daughter of Albin and Annabelle Gaustad. She grew up in Jamestown attending Franklin Elementary School. Following graduation with honors from Jamestown High School, Gertrude worked as a secretary during World War II in Washington State and Washington D.C. She then worked as a legal secretary for a Minneapolis law firm, returned to Jamestown to work at Trinity Hospital and then moved to St. Paul as executive secretary to the administrator of St. Joseph's Hospital. Upon the death of her mother, Gertrude returned to Jamestown to care for her father and work as executive secretary to the administrator of the State Hospital. Gertrude was a lifelong member of First United Methodist Church. She was very active in the humane society, Zonta and was a member of the Alfred Dickey Library Board. Gertrude enjoyed spending time with her dogs Max and Chauncey, gardening and traveling, especially to Cape Cod.
She is survived by two nephews and two nieces and many lifelong friends, especially, Agnes Fredricks, Thea Wagner and Marilyn Koehn.
She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, George and LeRoy.
Funeral service: 10:30 AM, Monday, January 30, 2006 at First United Methodist Church, Jamestown with Pastor Dick Boyd, officiating.
Visitation: 1:00 PM to 8:00 PM, Sunday, January 29 at Eddy Funeral Home, Jamestown.
Burial: Highland Home Cemetery, Jamestown.
