Gertrude Helen Mckenzie-Lind

Gertrude McKenzie-Lind, 98, Jamestown, North Dakota, died Wednesday, August 13, 2008 at Jamestown Hospital.

Gertrude was born on May 20, 1910 at LaMoure, ND, to Robert and Margaret (Sinnott) White. She grew up with her parents and siblings in the Whitehall, Montana area. She moved back to North Dakota when she was 20 years old to care for her grandparents at LaMoure. On November 20, 1933 Gertrude married Arthur McKenzie in Pingree. They farmed in the Pingree area and raised their seven children there. Arthur died in 1981. Gerturde married Elmer Lind in 1987. He died in 1991.

Gertrude was an active member of various organizations throughout her life, including the Pingree Homemakers, Farm Bureau, the Stutsman County Fair Board and the Pingree Senior Citizens. She cooked at the Pingree School for 10 years and worked as a live-in caretaker for several people in Jamestown. Gertrude enjoyed reading, writing poems and watching sunsets. She was a member of the St. James Basilica in Jamestown.

Gertrude is survived by three sons, Donald (Katie Melican), Anchorage, AK, Joseph (Jean Limesand), Bismarck, ND and Philip (Danette Schanilac), Bismarck, ND; three daughters, Faye (Tony) Cumber, Pingree, ND, Frances Hayes, Alberton, MT and Pamela Susan (Kenneth) Kollman, Buchanan, ND; 20 grandchildren; 38 great-grandchildren; 4 great-great grandchildren; one sister, Dorothy Barkell, Whitehall, MT; and a very close friend, Willard Brooks.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husbands, Arthur McKenzie and Elmer Lind; one son, Thomas; one grandson, Jeff Woodward; one great-grandchild, Ashley Woodward; two brothers; and one sister.

Funeral Mass: 10:00 AM, Saturday, August 16, 2008 at the St. James Basilica, Jamestown, with Father John McGinnis officiating.

Visitation: 1:00 to 8:30 PM, Friday, August 15, 2008 at the Eddy Funeral Home in Jamestown.

Vigil: 8:30 PM, Friday, August 15, 2008 at the Eddy Funeral Chapel, with a rosary to be prayed following.

Burial: Pingree Cemetery, Pingree, North Dakota.
