Gertrude Peterson

Gertrude Peterson, 90, Jamestown, ND, died Sunday, May 15, 2016 at Ave Maria Village, Jamestown.

Gertrude Helen Kuska was born November 8, 1925 on the family farm near Dickey, ND, the daughter of Cyrus and Edith (Knepke) Kuska. She was raised on the family farm and attended the rural school. She married Ted Peterson at Marion, ND and they lived on a farm near Dickey, ND until moving to Jamestown, ND where Gertrude worked at the North Dakota State Hospital. At age 50, she received her GED Degree. Ted died August 5, 1984. Gertrude retired in 1987, after working 25 years at the State Hospital. She was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church, Jamestown, ND.

Gertie loved to travel. She journeyed to both east and west coastlines including many states in between, as well as Hawaii and Alaska with Alaska being the highlight of all of her travels. Gertie always kept her hands busy with small crafts which she enjoyed giving as gifts; as well as many home projects. Other interests included card playing, bingo, and board games. Gertie was George Jones’ number one fan. She saw him in concert on several occasions and had a large collection of his recordings.

Family was the center of her world. Almost everything she did revolved around her children and grandchildren. She hosted many Christmases, Easters with Easter Egg hunts that she organized for her grandchildren, and times would dress in costume for Halloween to greet her trick or treaters.

Gertie kept her faith in God always close throughout her life.

She is survived by 4 sons: Larry (Patti), Jamestown, ND; Gary (Mary), Jamestown, ND; Harry (Brenda), Montgomery, MN; Terry (Leila), Williston, ND; a daughter, Mary (Mark) Johnson, Fountain Hills, AZ; one sister-in-law, Harriett Kuska, Topock, AZ; twelve grandchildren and twenty-three great-grandchildren; good friend, Ardith Kleingartner; and her special angel, Linda Nygaard.

She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; and brother, Arnold; and brother and sister-in-law, Alfred and Roiene Kuska.

Funeral Service – 2:00 p.m., Saturday, May 21, 2016 at Good Shepherd Chapel, Ave Maria Village, Jamestown.

Visitation – 1:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., Friday, May 20, 2016 at Williams-Lisko Funeral Chapel, Jamestown.

Prayer Service: 7:00 p.m., Friday, May 20, 2016 at Williams-Lisko Funeral Chapel, Jamestown.

Interment – Highland Home Cemetery, Jamestown, ND
