Gertrude C. Riebhagen, 88, Fargo, North Dakota, formerly of Jamestown, ND, died Wednesday, October 4, 2006 at MeritCare Palliative Care Unit in Fargo.
Gertrude Christine Kusler was born October 8, 1917 on the family homestead, south of Fredonia, ND, the daughter of August and Christine (Woelfle) Kusler. She was baptized, confirmed and attended church and Sunday School in the Nazareth Congregational Church in Fredonia. She attended a one room country school south of Fredonia in Haag Township.
Gertrude married Otto Riebhagen on January 3, 1935 in Napoleon, ND. They rented a farm northwest of Fredonia. In 1940, they purchased a farm 8 miles southeast of Kulm, ND where they raised small grains and livestock.
Gertude and Otto moved to Jamestown in June of 1981. She was a member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church and Germans from Russia Historical Society (G.R.H.S.), both in Jamestown. She enjoyed singing in the G.R.H.S. choir as well as the church choir. Her hobbies included knitting, crocheting and embroidering.
She is survived by two daughters, Darlene (Melvin E.) Herrmann, Fargo, ND and Betty Lou Zimmerman, Tucson, AZ; seven grandchildren, thirteen great-grandchildren, three step great-grandchildren; one step great-great-granddaughter and one sister-in-law, Edna Hildebrand, Escondido, CA.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Otto; infant son; two sisters, Iona Schorzman and Leah Polensky; one brother, Raymond Kusler; infant great-grandson, Nicholas Herrmann and a son-in-law, Melvin Zimmerman.
Funeral Service: 11:00 AM, Monday, October 9, 2006 at St. Paul's United Methodist Church with Rev. Kenrad Pederson and Rev. Norman Winkelman officiating.
Visitation: 1:00 to 8:00 PM, Sunday, October 8, 2006 at the Eddy Funeral Home with the family receiving friends from 3:00 to 6:00 PM.
Burial: Sunset Memorial Gardens, Jamestown, North Dakota.
