Gertrude M Smith

Gertrude M. Smith, 96, passed away Saturday, September 10, 2016 at Ave Maria Village Nursing Home, Jamestown, ND.
Gertrude M. Daugs was born January 2, 1920 to August and Elsie (Behnke) Daugs in Pingree, ND. She graduated from Pingree High School in 1939, attended Valley City State College receiving her two year teaching certificate and taught school for two years in Stutsman County. Then in 1944, entered in St. Joseph School of Nursing graduating in 1947, receiving her RN degree. Gertrude married John Hoeckle of Kensal, March 7, 1947 in Aberdeen, SD. They lived on the farm near Kensal until 1949, when they bought a house in Jamestown, ND. They continued farming and in January 1956, when they bought the farm on Hwy 20. In 1979, John Hoeckle passed away. In 1982, she married Carroll L. Smith and they enjoyed traveling and spending time with friends and family. In 2004, they moved to an apartment in Jamestown. Gertrude moved to Ave Maria Village in March 2013. Carroll passed away in April 2013, at Ave Maria Village. She enjoyed playing cards and visiting with residents.
She is survived by two sisters, Alice Frederick, Jamestown, ND and Mary Jean Beedy, Stillwater, MN. She was preceded in death by Adolph Daugs, Clarance Daugs, Edward Daugs, Edwin Daugs, William Daugs, Carl Fischer, Louise Maki, Eleanor Nornberg, Tillie Nornberg, Matt Brausch, John Brausch and Paul Baker.

Funeral Service: 11:00 AM, Wednesday, September 14, 2016 at Good Shepherd Chapel, Ave Maria Village, Jamestown, ND.
Visitation: 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM, Tuesday, September 13 at Eddy Funeral Chapel.
Burial: Highland Home Cemetery.
