Gilbert W. Sodawasser, Sr., 78, Jamestown, North Dakota died Friday, September 2, 2005 at Jamestown Hospital in Jamestown.
Gilbert was born March 4, 1927 near Courtenay, North Dakota, the son of Louis and Julia (Braasch) Sodawasser. He received his education in rural Courtenay schools. Gilbert entered the US Navy and served in the South Pacific during WWII. He married Hildegarde Rausch in Kensal, ND. They farmed in Ashland township, near Courtenay. Later, Gilbert started general contracting in the Stutsman County area.
He was a member of the Basilica of St. James, Jamestown, the V.F.W., Jamestown, and the American Legion, Kensal, ND.
His hobbies were woodworking, hunting, and playing cards. Gilbert enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, especially his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. His greatest joy was spending 58 plus years with his darling wife.
Gilbert is survived by his wife, Hildegarde, Jamestown; three daughters, Julee (Steve) Taylor, Albany, OR, Cheri (John) Grocott, Ilwaco, WA, and LuAnn (Darrell) Martin, Courtenay, ND; two sons, Gilbert W., Jr. (Sandy) Sodawasser, Courtenay, ND and Mark (Crystal) Sodawasser, Webster, SD; 14 grandchildren; and 25 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one daughter, Wendy; one grandson, Sam Jeske; 2 sisters; and 3 brothers.
Funeral Mass: 10:30AM, Wednesday, September 7, 2005 at the Basilica of St. James, Jamestown with Father Steve Meyer and Father Al Bitz officiating.
Visitation: 1:00PM to 7:30PM, Tuesday, September 6, 2005 at the Eddy Funeral Home, Jamestown.
Vigil: 7:30PM, Tuesday, September 6, 2005 at the Eddy Funeral Chapel.
Burial: Sunset Memorial Gardens, Jamestown, ND.
