Gladys Elizabeth Headland

January 30, 1913 — July 19, 2007

Gladys Elizabeth Headland, 94, Bismarck, North Dakota, formerly of Jamestown, died Thursday, July 19, 2007 at Missouri Slope Lutheran Care Center in Bismarck.

Gladys Mickelson was born January 30, 1913 in Jud, ND the daughter of Morris and Hilda (Lee) Mickelson. She grew up on the family farm and received her education in country schools in the area. On November 21, 1931 Gladys married Axel Headland in Jamestown. They farmed near Alfred, Oakes and Montpelier before returning to Jamestown in 1954. Gladys worked as a waitress for a short time. She later worked at Red Owl and then as a cook at Jamestown College and the North Dakota State Hospital. Axel died February 14, 1994.

Gladys enjoyed quilting and crocheting. She was a member of the United Presbyterian Church, Jamestown, the Sons of Norway, VFW Auxillary, and a charter member of the Eagles Auxillary.

Gladys is survived by two daughters, Margurite (Bill) Toay, Bismarck, ND and Helen (Bill) Wolf, Plymouth, MN; two sons, Melvin Headland, Seattle, WA and Arland (Patti) Headland, Desert Aire, WA; 12 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; 10 great-great grandchildren and three sisters, Bernice Spotts, Missouri, Delores Carlson, Jamestown and Hazel Cavashere, California.

She was preceded in death by her husband; a great-grandson, Shawn Michael Toay and four brothers, Arnold, Douglas, John and Jim.

Funeral Service: 10:30 AM, Monday, July 23, 2007 at the United Presbyterian Church, Jamestown with Pastor Randy Argall officiating.

Visitation: 1:00 to 7:00 PM, Sunday, July 22, 2007 at the Eddy Funeral Home, Jamestown.

Prayer Service: 7:00 PM, Sunday, July 22, 2007 at the Eddy Funeral Chapel, Jamestown.

Burial: Sunset Memorial Gardens, Jamestown, North Dakota.

In lieu of flowers, memorials preferred to the United Presbyterian Church, Jamestown.
