Glenn Glimore

March 31, 1927 — October 14, 2010

Glenn H. Gilmore, 83, of Jud, ND, died Thursday, October 14, 2010, at Villa Maria, Fargo, ND.

Glenn H. Gilmore was born March 31, 1927, at Edgeley, ND, the son of George and Mathilda (Nitschke) Gilmore. He received his elementary education in a rural school in Glen Township, near Edgeley. Glenn grew up on the family farm, which he co-owned with his late brother, Ivan, with whom he farmed with as Gilmore Bros.

Glenn was a life long farmer who had a love and understanding of the land. Like many farmers of his generation, he enjoyed regaling in the stories of the difficult times farmers faced and overcame in the past-depression times here in North Dakota. Glenn especially enjoyed recalling the advance in agriculture he witnessed and took part in over the decades he spent in farming. So passes a part of the history of our community: pitching bundles as part of a threshing crew, keeping livestock fed and watered during a blizzard without modern equipment, crop failures and hail storms before farm programs and crop insurance. While faming in that era made men hard, Glenn never lost his humor and gentleness, and that endeared him to family and friends.

Glenn enjoyed fishing and camaraderie with the hunters that would stay at the Gilmore farm over the years. "He will be greatly missed."

Glenn is survived by a sister, Deloris Kingston, Cupertino, CA; a sister-in-law, Irene Gilmore, Jud, ND; seven nieces and nephews: Rod (Vicki) Gilmore, Ron (Candy) Gilmore, Lee Stickler, Virginia Brush, Susan (Paul) Petach, Reed (Meryl) Kingston, and Carolyn (Bob) Garrett and cousins in North Dakota, Iowa, and Washington.

He was preceded in death by his parents; grandparents; two brothers, Roy (2005) and Ivan (2007); a sister, Viola Stickler (2007); and a niece, LaRae Hillius (2004).
