Gordon Lee Christensen was born on June 21, 1924, in Fergus Falls, Minnesota, the son of Guy A.and Cora M. (Bergerud) Christensen. He was baptized at the Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Fergus Falls, MN, and was confirmed at the Sverdrup Lutheran Church in Underwood, MN. In 1942 he served his country in the Military Police with the United State Army until his honorable discharge on March 31, 1946. On June 5, 1948, he married Donna Christensen at Olivet Lutheran Church in Fargo, ND. He attended Moorhead State College from 1946-1950 where he graduated with a BS and BA degree. In the fall of 1953 he started teaching in the Tioga, ND school system where he taught for seven years.
Gordon accepted a teaching position in biology at Jamestown in the spring of 1961. He taught in Jamestown for 23 years and retired from his profession in 1985. During his teaching career he was a member of the JEA, NDEA, The National Association of Biology Teachers and the NDSTA, a director of the South Central Science Fair Association and a director of the ND Science Fair Association. He received a certificate of honor as a ND outstanding biology teacher from the National Association of Biology Teachers in 1968. He worked for the ND Department of Education on science curriculum improvement. After retiring from teaching, Gordon and Donna spent nine years as Head Residents at Watson Hall at Jamestown College.
He was active in Trinity Lutheran Church as a Sunday School teacher, a member of the church choir and a member and past president of the church council. He was also active in Boy Scout work and a Scout merit badge counselor. Gordon was a member of the Jamestown Choralaires for 28 years, a former member of the Hillcrest Men's Golf Association, a member of the Stutsman County Retired Teachers Association, the Sons of Norway and the American Legion.
He is survived by his wife, Donna; two sons, Gordon Jr. (Crystal), Yuma, AZ and Bradley (Brenda), Jamestown; two daughters, Candace (Daniel) Martian, Mandan, ND and Carol (Daniel) Boyt, Kent, WA, six grandsons, two granddaughters and two granddaughters-in-laws; his brother, David and sister Marjorie Brandt.
His brother, Kenneth, and sister, Virginia, preceded him in death.
Memorial Service: 10:30 AM, Tuesday, April 1, 2003 at Trinity Lutheran Church, Jamestown with lunch immediately following the service at Atonement Lutheran Church, Jamestown.
