Grace Walz

Grace (Schober) Walz, 88, died on Saturday, December 21, 2024 in Jamestown, ND.

Grace was born on December 30, 1935, on a farm east of Jud in the township of Raney, ND, the daughter of Herman and Emma (Nitschke) Schober.  She was baptized and confirmed at St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church.  She attended school in Jud, where she excelled both academically and on the kittenball field.  She graduated from high school in 1954 and soon after began working at Jamestown Hospital where she worked for 44 years, working and managing the business office.

On September 5, 1955, she married Ruben Walz at Our Saviors Lutheran Church, in Jamestown.  They made their home in Jamestown, where Grace was active in the Jaycees and other community organizations.  After retirement Grace remained active in the community by serving as a community ombudsman at local long-term care facilities.  She was an active member of St. John’s Lutheran Church where she served as a Lay Sacramentarian.

Grace enjoyed spending time outdoors and traveling.  Ruben and Grace traveled to all 50 states, Canada, Europe, South America, Australia, New Zealand, Mexico and the Caribbean.  She also enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Grace is survived by three sons; David (Christeen), Jamestown, ND, Donald (Amy), Jamestown, ND and Dean (Bridget), Walpole, NH; five grandchildren, Benjamin (Taylor), Andrew, Nathaniel, Isabelle, and Violet; one step-granddaughter, Meaghann (Michael) Krause; three great grandchildren Barrett, Scottie and Sawyer.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband of 56 years, daughter Deborah in 2006; her siblings Floyd and Marion Drenth.

Visitation will be 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM, Thursday, December 26, 2024 at Eddy Funeral Home.  Funeral service will be 2:00 PM, Friday, December 27, 2024 at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Jamestown, ND wit Pastor Erik Weber officiating.  Interment will be in Highland Home Cemetery.
