Harold F. Gums, 88, Jamestown, North Dakota died Wednesday, December 10, 2014 at Eventide at Hi-Acres Manor Nursing Home, Jamestown. Harold Gums was born December 20, 1925, in Cleveland, North Dakota to Fred and Katherine (Vossler) Gums. He attended Roosevelt grade school in Jamestown and graduated from Jamestown High School in 1943. Harold worked at the railroad for about 6 months before joining the Army at Fort Snelling, Minnesota on February 11, 1944. He served as an infantryman and the medical corp for 10 years during WWII and Korean War. Harold was overseas in such places as Germany, France, Austria, Japan and Korea. He returned to the US and serving eight more years. After serving twenty years in the Army, Harold was discharged on February 1964, returning to Jamestown. He worked temporarily as a mail clerk on the mail train and other odd jobs until joining the Jamestown Police Dept. in April 1965. Harold then worked in the Sheriff's Dept. until he retired in 1980.
He is survived by three brothers, Ervin (Nora) Gums, Jamestown, ND, Rev. Reuben Gums, Jamestown, ND, Lloyd (Millie) Gums, Lodi, CA; sister, Leah Fuehrer, Jamestown, ND and many nieces and nephews. Harold was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, Helen Powers and Edna Weispfenning and one brother, Fred, Jr.
Funeral Service: 11:00 AM, Monday, December 15, 2014 at St. Paul's United Methodist Church, Jamestown with Pastor Fred Gums & Pastor Arlyn Coalter, officiating.
Visitation: 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM, Sunday, December 14 at Eddy Funeral Chapel.
Prayer Service: 7:00 PM, Sunday, December 14 at Eddy Funeral Chapel.
Burial: Highland Home Cemetery.
