Harry J. Gusaas, 91, Jamestown, ND, formerly of Marion, ND died Wednesday, September 3, 2014 at Ave Maria Village, Jamestown, ND. Harry was born December 6, 1922 on a farm near Litchville, ND, to Arthur and Amelia (Giste) Gusaas. He attended a rural country school through 8th grade and then attended high school in Hastings, ND. Harry married Alice Lillehoff on March 27, 1944. He served in the Navy in January 1945 during WWII and served on the USS Bunker Hill Aircraft Carrier. He was honorably discharged in March, 1946. Alice passed away on July 14, 1947. He married Eileen Foy on October 3, 1948 at Nortonville, ND. Harry and Eileen farmed and raised their family in Meadow Lake Township northwest of Marion. Along with farming all his life, he also drove school bus for 15 years, which he enjoyed. All the kids always had great respect for him. In 1976, Harry and Eileen built a new home in Marion. He continued to farm until retiring in 1984. He served his community by his service on the Barnes County FHA Committee, Clerk of Meadow Lake Township Board for 27 years, Marion Lutheran Church Council and Marion City Council. He was also a VFW Life Member. In 1997, Harry and Eileen sold their home in Marion and moved to Jamestown. Eileen passed away on February 20, 2012. He enjoyed many things in life including traveling, spending winters in Texas, bowling, golfing, fishing, crossword puzzles and most of all in the later years playing cards and attending all the activities at the Heritage Center (where he lived) and the James River Senior Center, where he enjoyed playing pinochle. His greatest love was his family and friends. He is survived by his daughter, Nancy (Jerry) Fuchs, Jamestown, ND; daughter-in-laws, Sharlene Gusaas, Bismarck, ND and Joletta Gusaas, Ellendale, ND; 11 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren; one brother, Walter (Laurel) Gusaas, Jamestown, ND; one sister, Mavis (Dean) Kranz, National City, MI. He was preceded in death by his 2 wives, 3 sons, Dale, Jerry, Jim, 1 grandson, Jared, 1 great-grandson, Adam, his parents and 2 brothers, Ervin and Morris.
Memorials may be made to the Heritage Center, Ave Maria Village, Immanuel Lutheran Church, James River Senior Center or charity of your choice.
Funeral Service: 11:00 AM, Monday, September 8, 2014 at Good Shepherd Chapel, Ave Maria Village, Jamestown, ND with Pastor Lucinda Lien and Deacon Tom Geffre.
Visitation: 3:00 PM to 7:00 PM, Sunday, September 7 at Eddy Funeral Chapel.
Prayer Service: 7:00 PM, Sunday, September 7 at Eddy Funeral Chapel.
Burial: Lakeview Cemetery, Marion, ND.
