Harry Schmidt, 94, died Monday, March 24, 2025, at Missouri Slope Nursing Home, Bismarck, ND.
Harry was born May 26, 1930, on the Schmidt family farm in Frettim Township northeast of Lake Williams, ND to Fred and Mary (Kassman) Schmidt. Harry attended Frettim Township country school and completed the 8th grade.
In February 1951 he joined the Army for two years during the Korean War, serving most of his time at Fort Worden, Washington. He received his honorable discharge in 1953.
On October 9, 1953, Harry married Lois Ziesch and they moved to a farm northwest of Lake Williams. They were blessed with six children. Four boys, Norlyn, Loren, Cordell, Darnell and two girls, Doreen and Sheila.
They were members of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church, Pettibone and he served various offices at the church. He also served on the board of Kidder County Farmers Union and was a lifetime member of Robinson Lions Club.
Lois passed away May 10, 1994, and Harry continued his farming operation. After spending over 50 years on the farm he moved to Pettibone in 2005. In 2017, he moved into the Golden Manor Assisted Living Facility in Steele, ND. In 2023, he entered Missouri Slope Nursing Home, Bismarck, ND.
Harry enjoyed being around people and loved playing cards, especially cribbage and pinochle. He also looked forward to having coffee each morning with friends at the local café and going downtown each afternoon to play cards.
He was preceded in death by his wife Lois, son Cordell, father and mother, five sisters, two brothers, two sons-in-law Blayne Eggleston & John Albohm, two grandchildren Eric and Mia, and one great grandson Tristen.
Survivors include children Norlyn (Patsy) Schmidt, Bismarck, Doreen Albohm (Don Wallace), Jamestown, ND, Loren (Lavon) Schmidt, Coon Rapids, MN, Sheila (Steve) Tschider, Lake Isabel, Darnell (Denise) Schmidt, Steele, ND; 11 grandchildren, Brian (Anna) Schmidt, Colton Albohm, Cody Albohm, Chase Albohm, Cadon (Linsey) Schmidt, Kamen Schmidt, Taren Schmidt, Erin Schmidt, Kelsey Schmidt, Brianna (Daniel) Bodunov, and Mikayla (Ross) Nixon; five great grandchildren, Matthew, Ava, Amira, Julianna, and Mia; two sisters-in-law, Delores Ziesch, Mandan, ND and Karen Ziesch, Pettibone, ND.
The family would like to express a special thank you to the staff at Golden Manor Assisted Living Facility, Missouri Slope Nursing Home and CHI Hospice Care.
A funeral service will be held at 10:30 AM, Monday, March 31, 2025, at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church, Pettibone, ND with Pastor Robert Hill officiating. Visitation will be one hour before the service. Interment will be in Petersville Cemetery, rural Pettibone. www.eddyfuneralhome.com
